No.
Currently all HL1 retail editions are STEAM infected.

Yes the original ones from Sierra are all STEAM free but the later
ones are all STEAM infected
Btw all the Sierra editions are no longer manufactured and have been
removed from the market except for some Retailers that still keep some
stock left.

Yes, and all are STEAM infected.
You can either check my page:
http://pcgames2006.tripod.com/pcgprodact.htm
In there you will find all STEAM infected games released so far
Well its a little bit outdated, I need to included the games released
in the last 3 months, but when it comes to HL1 you will find the
edition that is STEAM infected.
Also a good way is to check this:
If a Valve game is not from Sierra (Vivendi) and you can't find a
Sierra logo in the box then its STEAM infected
And for now on all Valve games will be STEAM infected forever.
Btw the games are distributed by EA so if you see its from EA and
Valve then its also safe to say its STEAM infected
But the best is really this, if you can't find a Sierra logo then its
STEAM infected.
For example this is very STEAM infected edition:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000B8U0YC/
This is the HL version released after STEAM and after the breakup with
Sierra
Now two examples of proper Retail editions of HL STEAM free all
published by Sierra:
I myself have 2 units of these editions just for safeguard cause they
will never again be manufactured
HL Generations 3 edition

HL Best Seller edition

Hope this helps
