It used to default to lowest res but they have just changed that in a recent
patch for some reason :/

Let me go have a peek in the wow folder...

Ok goto wow game folder, into the WTF subfolder and open Config.wtf with
Wordpad not Notepad.

Edit 4th line too
SET gxResolution "800x600"

And it should come on now.

Theres probably an easier way that i dont know about but that only takes a
few seconds anyhow.
