That was my initial reaction to the OP also, but thinking back to my
problems with modems in the past, it froze at the next step, after the
preparation phase. Have you had problems at this early stage?
I suspect a clean image might not help. If it's not the modem, it
sounds more likely to be a data file system problem (eg, the linux log
file directories). Image problems are more likely to result in
immediate failure rather than a freeze. "Clear and Delete Everything"
may fix things, at a large cost.
