So, I figured I'd like to do the Blade's Edge skyguard daily quests. Fly
all the way there, but no yellow icon appears for me. Hmmm, I start
checking wowhead to see what's up. Eventually come across a comment saying:
"In order to unlock this quest, you must complete ALL the Ogri'la quests
up until Relic's Emanation. You also must complete the quests, 'Our Boy
Wants to be a Skyguard Ranger' and 'A Father's Duty'. When you finish
that quest line, the Bombing Run quest will open up."
Ok, so I wander down to the Ogri'la, hmmmm, neutral, no quests
available. What now, check the web again. Apparently I have to do this
first:
http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=11022.
Ok, so I fly off to find this NPC, Bladespire Supplicant who gives the
quest. Where the hell is he? Read some more, wtf, the comment says he
only appears after I complete some 5 man group quest:
http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=11000
I read a comment by someone here a while ago that everything in outland
seems to end in group quests. At the time I wasn't sure I agreed, but
now I'm thinking I do. Not only ends, but in the middle of many chains
with a nice reward at the end, suddenly I'm faced with a nasty group
quest. I've got plenty of unfinished chains sitting in my log because I
can't find a group for the group quest part. It's such a pita >> Stay informed about: Group quests :( |

I never had a problem getting a group for these preliminary Ogrila
quests. Seemed people were always looking for help on them. All you
have to do is stand around in the zone and watch for someone to ask in
General if anyone else needs that quest. Put yourself in the LFG
queue to watch the LFG channel as well.
It kinda sucks that you need groups to finish chains but they can't
just hand out the good gear, they have to put some ammount of work
into getting it. >> Stay informed about: Group quests :( |

I had that quest in my quest log for a while too. Eventually completed
it with guildies. Group of three is enough if you avoid the adds by
shooting from the roof. >> Stay informed about: Group quests :( |

Getting exalted with skyguard is a lot easier if you already have an
epic flying mount. Some of those quests, especially the bombing
quests in BEM are frustrating when flying a normal flying mount. >> Stay informed about: Group quests :( |

This is one of the funniest things I've ever heard.
I would venture to say that a soloer actually works harder than
someone who always groups. Kills take longer, etc. My Hunter was one
of the hardest-working characters I ever had. She soled, so there was
no one to tell her what to do or where to go. Thottbot was on "speed-
dial" - quest location coords were researched, written down, etc.
Quests like "To Netherwing Ledge!" were nervously soloed, with no one
to look out for the constantly wandering Elites. She didn't do
instances, so she grinded and grinded and grinded Leather to make her
own stuff.
In contrast, my Paladin tanked Underbog on Wednesday. The party
consisted of myself, my lvl 67 Hunter friend, a lvl 65 Holy Paladin, a
lvl 66 Hunter and a lvl 63 Warrior. The Warrior couldn't quite grasp
that I was the MT, not him, and every time I'd pull, instead of
waiting for the mobs to come to us, he'd immediately rush up to the
skull and start attacking, in plain view of pats. The lvl 66 Hunter
didn't have half his class's skills trained, had no idea how to trap,
and had this nasty habit of messaging, "Back!" after every single
fight, hot having told us in the first place that he'd gone AFK.
So then Ghaz'an drops a Hatebringer. The Warrior says, "I'm gonna need
that". Then something else dropped that the lvl 66 Hunter Needed on.
So these two people, who A) created more work by drawing pats; or B)
were AFK for a good chunk of the instance and let everyone else kill,
deserve the "good gear" over a soloer, who has to kill everything him/
herself, because they "put some amount of work into getting it" by
grouping?
I understand that with the later quests with these lvl 70+ Elites, you
can't really have anyone on the group who's a slacker, but the notion
that someone hasn't worked hard because they didn't group seems a
little silly to me.

I didn't imply that someone hasn't worked hard simply because they
didn't group, I simply said that the better quest reward gear is going
to come from harder quests that require a group to complete. Hunters
and warlocks don't count here, though the number of fear immune elites
in Outland has severely diminished the ammount warlocks can solo.
Of course there will be turds who slip through the cracks here.
You're looking for a group to do a certain quest that suggests 5
players and you have 4, suddenly some warrior offers to be the 5th.
The warrior shows up and can't hold aggro on anything, 2 of your
members die, but you kill the mob anyway and everyone gets credit.
Groups do offer a way of letting worthless players gain better stuff
but its also a way of showing how much better you can be when forced
to respond to a very bad situation.
I soloed my way to 70 with my warlock on a PvP realm. I rarely
grouped unless I found a quest with a really good reward, and even
then I jsut got a high level guildy to help me out (this was my second
warlock btw so I already knew how to work in a group). It wasn't
until level 58 and I entered Outland that I started grouping with
people my own level on a regular basis as some of the group quest
rewards are well worth it. >> Stay informed about: Group quests :( |

Amen to that. Guilds are WONDERFUL things guys. If you're not in a
good one, keep looking. I just completely the beginining Ogrila
quests this past weekend. Sunday night after Kara I just mentioned
"anybody got time to help out with the Ogr'la chain? Found 3 others
in guild who needed it and another who didn't mind doing it.
Of course, while we had a tank and lots of DPS, we had no healer. The
way this quest works, you don't need to be in the group: you just
pickup an item that the killed boss drops (everybody can do it).
The solution? My main is my mage, and wanted the quest on her. I have
a resto druid though that also needed it, and could do the healing.
We'd all fly to the location where the boss is. I'd log out of the
mage, log into the druid. Our lock would summon my druid to the new
location. We kill boss. I loot on my druid, logout, then loot it on
my mage too. Fly mage to new location, log out, log into druid, get
summoned . Did this for I think 5 different bosses before
completing. Was almost kinda fun .
So my advice is just find yourself a good, friendly guild who does
this sort of stuff. Even most raiding guilds (which is us, though
wer'e not really hardcore raiders) don't mind doing this stuff,
ESPECIALLY anything that will yield lots of money or good gear,
because better gear for the guild means easier (or in some cases,
acheivable) encounters.

Fair enough, I understand the thinking, but it sure is frustrating. I do
check the LFG channel and I do advertise in general, but still have all
these unfinished group quests. For example, I really want the gloves

I agree with you. While I have formed/joined PUGs for the purpose of
knockign some out, I've found the absolute best way to get through them
is to find a good guild. Then the hardest part becomes finding people
who aren't in the middle of a raid/instance who can come help you polish
them off.
I'm starting to hit the group quests in Netherstorm now, as I work my
way through the quests I haven't done for the cash rewards. Halfway to
my epic flyer as of last night -- 2500g and counting.

It doesn't help that I'm on a low population server. I'm in a guild with
real life friends and am happy to be playing with them, but because it's
a self started guild, it isn't that big. Maybe 10 really active members
and some part timers. 3 level 70s (no healer), and a few level 67+. When
they get to 70 hopefully things will improve and we can start doing
these group quest together.

I'm sitting at 4300g over all my characters. This last 1000g is going
slowly. Being a druid I'd love to get the swift flight form immediately
but I can see the chain taking me some time to complete (especially the
heroic Sethekk Halls), so I will probably save up the extra 200g to buy
a swift mount until I can complete the chain. I'd love a nether ray, but
it'll take some time to hit exalted with Skyguard. >> Stay informed about: Group quests :( |

then goes to

http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=10996
http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=10997
then

http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=11025

http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=11080
then
