Just did a search on SWG in the feeds and noticed the group, seems a bit
forgotten though.

Which do you mean: the newsgroup, the actual game, or both?

Too bad... even a good game post-CU.

And before I start too much trouble. It's true - much, much better pre-CU.

Just started the 14 day trail not long ago. Never played it before. On
it's own merits, enjoying it very much so far & will probably take
advantage of the cheap all-in-1 premium online download deal for an
extra month.

So, where does one go to ask questions & find out about in game
elements? Please don't say the forums - arrrggghhhh!@#$%^&*(! Wink

Can't help you much there. I returned to the game about 2 months ago after
being away almost 3 years, and had to bug people with all my inane questions
that I couldn't find answers to. What server do you play on? I just
canceled one of my accounts, but I have another still active on the
Corbantis server.

The official forums are actually a wealth of information if you can manage
to find it (and find stuff that isn't horribly out of date). I highly
recommend the profession guides that are stickied in the profession boards.

I could try to help you out here if you have some specific questions.

The second picture (with all the people) was what was known as a buff house,
and they did charge admission to get in (I think it was 50,000 credits) -
but the admission price also got you a full set of buffs which lasted for a
long time (upwards of 4 hours). They have since changed the buff system
dramatically.

Your best bet would be to sit down with the RE guide and find out how to
make your own +35 power bits. Once you have a full set of power bits, which
I believe is either 9 or 11, you can take them to a tailor (with the
appropriate loot items, read the guide) and have a set of clothes made with
them. Otherwise a full set of +35 clothes will cost anywhere from 10-20
million. There is a category in the bazaar/vendor search for SEAs (skill
enhancing attachments) which would probably help you out.

You can get a combat droid to hang out with you, too (or a zillion other
kinds of droids). You don't need anything special to use them.

> Yeah, that was the 3rd buff, the +15%xp - gratis too. Said he doesn't

Most entertainers will buff noobs for free, but it's still good practice to
tip them something. You could say something to the effect of "I'm new and
don't have much money" and then tip a few hundred or a few thousand credits.
On my entertainer, I average 10,000-20,000 per buff. Oh, and stay away from
entertainers who charge cover fees.

These would have been medic buffs. They're incredibly powerful, but don't
last very long unless the medic has really good gear.

Nope. All the waypoints are actually inside starports. You don't even have
to walk outside!

Hope you're having fun so far.

Wow! Cool idea though, the way SWG makes players dependent on each other
for buffs, but doesn't force them to group if they don't want to in
order to get them.

Excuse my ignorance (or obtuseness yet again) - what's the 'RE' guide &
would you have a link pls to the best one?

Will definitely check this out also when I re-sub & get back for a full
day of mmo goodness while I'm home alone tomorrow! Smile))

Ooooh nice, my own R2-D2 style cute one, or one of them wanky Episode
1-3 skinny humanoid ones? The only cool ones were the rolling Destroyer
droids - can I get one of them to pace me on my swoop bike through the
wilderness? <G>

At lvl 70+ I imagine 10-20K is 5-10 mins work? Which is a small price to
pay to add the equivalent of several levels in buffs to you for 4-5 hrs
(or the entire play session virtually). Great in-game design them
entertainers. Is it a lot of work to level your own? I take it you get
xp & gain lvls from buffing ppl, w/o ever having to set foot outside a
cantina? Shame you can't buff yourself with the one account, whereas a
2nd trader char on the same account is totally useful, assuming you can
craft stuff for your main & just mail it to yourself (& raws from the
main to the trader).

On the subject of traders, how do they go about doing all the surveying
& hunting for raws in the wilderness, if they aren't very good at
combat? i.e. could I level a trader from scratch & be self-sufficient,
apart from some minor trading/buying with/from other players or via the
bazaar? Why did they make the bazaar have a 20K limit on auctions/sales?
Odd design choice.

Still, at 15 mins I can imagine that no large party would want to go
into battle w/o one, ey?

WOOT! OMW 1st thing tomorrow then! Smile

So far so very good. It's sad that a SW fan who has seen the original
movie over 100 times (I kid you not, I stopped actually counting at
70-something so estimate, so know it's probably well over 100 actually
*blush*) hasn't played this game before. Unforgivable really, heh.

The RE (reverse engineering) guide I'm referring to is on the SWG Craft
site. Here's a direct link:
http://www.swgcraft.co.uk/dev/re_guides.php

There are all kinds of droid types available including the R2 style, med
droid, protocol, mouse, probe, and even the droideka.

Yes, at higher levels the credits roll in a bit faster.

Leveling an entertainer just takes time. You can set them up with a macro
and just leave it on ovenight. You get xp by just dancing/playing music
while using "flourishes". You have to be at the keyboard to buff someone
though.

You can't mail items, but you can use a house to hold everything and just
add both of your characters to the Admin list.

Traders get their asses handed to them in combat, so surveying can be a bit
of a pain sometimes. I suggest a suit of armor, powerful rifle (for the
distance) and buffs. It's usually not too bad if you can fight one thing at
a time. My trader usually goes out alone without much of a problem.

The 20k bazaar limit has always been in place, most likely to encourage
vendor use so that crafters were more involved in the game.

No, what is unforgivable is all the people who play SWG who have never seen
the movies.

Cheers dude - where do I get one? Let me guess - there are serious lvl reqs
for a droideka, ey? Wink

I thought I saw some AFK entertainer asking for 10K just to 'buy in' or
something. What was I going to get for that if he's not there? Or was he
just scammin? :-/

Cool. It was 2 chars per server/galaxy, right?

I think I'll start with a trader as I'm not much of a creative 'entertainer'
type heh.

Which is great until the population dies down...

*boggle*

Then again, lots of nuff nuffs playing LOTRO who never read the books &
probably haven't even seen the movies, from what I've gathered. Hard to
imagine, yeah.

Catch you online soon I hope - today was a disaster & I didn't get much time
to myself to sub Sad.

You can buy them from a Droid Engineer (trader). I'm not sure about any of
the reqs.

Entertainers can charge a cover fee with the regular interface, but it isn't
used and is generally frowned upon in the entertainer community. I'm not
sure why. It's been around for a long time.

Yes, unless you unlocked jedi before the NGE - then you get a free character
slot.
