On ENWorld, I read "Greyhawk will not be default setting in core. We want to
leverage the assets of the assumed parts of a D&D world - Mordenkainen,
Bigby, Vecna, Llolth, Tiamat, Asmodeus, etc. However, we also want to call
upon the great mythology that is more commonly known such as Thor, etc."
That is great. License Greyhawk to Erik Mona and all of us will be happy.
Anyone have any other Greyhawk news?

Its a shame that Greyhawk seems to be going to the wayside, but fans
will in
all likelyhood keep - the torch - burning for this campagn setting.

Living Greyhawk is closing down at Origins 2008, to be replaced by a Living
Forgotten Realms campaign.
It's possible that they may release a single-book or limited-line version of the
Greyhawk setting down the line . . . mention was made of a setting book coming
out on an annual basis, and while we know the Forgotten Realms is coming out in
September 2008 and presumably Eberron will follow in (hopefully early) 2009, not
much else has been confirmed. They've included Ravenloft as an example setting
on the D&D Insider previews, though, listed as a campaign on the character
selection screen.
The painful thing for Erik Mona and Paizo Publishing, of course, is that while
they'd love to do Greyhawk they now have their own setting IP to develop . . .
hard choice, and tough for them to do both at once.

I wonder what the Greyhawk IP is worth to buy outright. Alternatively, I
wonder what the license is worth. I would love to jump in there and snag
that baby for the "old school" types at some point in time over the next
couple of years.

I predict that as long as EGG lives, it'll be impossible to get that
deal done. Or Mythus, for that matter, which I'd buy outright from them

Because old enmities die hard, and even though TSR is no more, not all
of the people from the old "TSR vs. GDW" are gone from WOTC. Some
people would rather die than see EGG possibly regain control of the
world he created.
Since he's in his 70's now and in poorer health, it may not be long
before it does become possible. I only hope that the original Castle
Greyhawk, as filtered through the C&C game system, gets done first.
I won't name any names here for various reasons, but I have my sources
on who & what is holding this back, and that's the same reason that the
Mythus stuff they got in the settlement will also never see the light of
day so long as EGG is around. >> Stay informed about: What is going to happen to Greyhawk? |

Greyhawk has survived being shut out before. It can do it again.

That is part of the reason I am thinking about acquiring the license.
Anyone with a love for the setting can tell that the Paizo folks really
treated it with the respect it deserves.

Now that would be a Greyhawk that could just possibly interest me even
more than "Paizohawk"... both as a consumer and a possible contributor!

I don't think they would sell, they are still using a significant
amount of the IP with things such the pantheon and names (Bigby,
Mordenkainen, etc.)
