Got Castlevania mint and complete. That's a toughie. Unbelievable
shape.
They also have a spider man TAG arcade machine there. Dumped like $5
into it. Great.

For some reason Genesis stuff doesn't get overpriced like Nintendo
stuff does.
Everytime I go up there I hit gold.

I have found this, give it a shot:

"FastMAME"

"A heavily optimized build of MAME to run on slower hardware."

Might want to give it a shot, see how it goes. Granted, you won't be
able to play stuff like War Gods(I can barely do it on my P4 3ghz with a
Radeon X1950 Pro), but lower-end stuff may just work out. Let me know
how it goes.

Let me ask you this: Can the N64 play imports without any sort of mod
switch or anything? I just recently bought another N64(God help me) for
the sole purpose of San Francisco Rush, but I wouldn't mind attempting
that "Sin and Punishment" everyone talks about.

The GG's main strength is allowing you to beat games with friends. I
mean, I can't even remotely tell you how many hard-ass(or even easy)
games I've been able to go through with buddies due to unlimited lives
or whatnot. I took a buddy through all of the paths in Contra: Hard
Corps, it was great!

The N64 needs bumps in the cartridge slot removed to play imports. (FYI,
I have never tried Euro imports, only Japan.) If you have a gamebit, the
easiest way is to open it up and remove that part (which unfortunately
means the dust door has to go too).

Easy mod information here. It's possible to take out the risers without
losing the dust door, but it's generally more trouble than it's worth:

http://www.gamesx.com/importmod/n64con.htm

A properly coded N64 game should automatically switch between 50 and 60 Hz
mode, but the only sure way to tell if an EU game will run on your US
console is to try it after you mess with the slot. Hope that helps you out.

Disregard this rule if the meat in the nuggets is not actually chicken.

I appreciate the info, from both of ya'll. I don't know if I'll ever get
around to getting an N64 import, but I figured I'd ask. Wink

Well, I don't think you can play PAL games on a non-PAL n64, or at
least that's what I've been told. You need some sort of gizmo. I doubt
that the gameshark will do it.

You can definitely play Japanese imports. I have several imports
including Pro Wrestling and J2.

People will tell you that you need to modify your n64, but this is not
the case. All you have to do is take the cartridge apart. The Japanese
carts have a slightly different shaped backplate. Remove this and put
an american backplate on the cartridge and your good to go.

I got my Chun Li controller. Great! I *almost* got past the batman
boss. I put a much bigger whooping on him than I had previously
managed. I'm confident that I will FINALLY beat him soon. I couldn't
get past the second level of Castlevania yet, but I'm working on it Very Happy

Tell me, what's easier for you? Modifying your console once, or modifying
every cartridge you want to play? Smile If you have a big collection, that
could get time consuming. On the other hand, we have to do something with
all the extra Perfect Dark cart shells lying around...

For me, even with the non-electronic region locking I still like to have
redundant hardware. I have one N64 that's set up for US carts and one
that's set up for JPN carts (even though I don't a single import game.)

Disregard this rule if the meat in the nuggets is not actually chicken.

There's no limit to what a great controller can do for you gaming. Smile

Looking over YouTube, Sin and Punishment wasn't the import I was
thinking of. There's some gothic-looking game for the N64, I think it
was only released in Japan or the UK...it looked really, really cool but
I just can't remember the name. I believe it's a third person
adventure-type thing. If anyone happens to know, please post! Smile

LOL. I used to buy Maddens and ACCLAIM Pro Wrestlings in bulk
quantities for a buck but only if they had mint back plates. Then I
would use the back plates for "real" carts that needed them. Then I
would strip the commons of other other possibly useful parts (the
screws for example) and just throw the commons out since nobody wants
them. This type of work for me is something I am used to. I have been
in the business of piecing together near mint carts for rare 64 titles
for like 4 years. Even after all this time there are still a few carts
in my collection of 225+ games that I am not happy with.

Imports always seem to torture me. I want to buy more of them, but
they don't come cheap. Since they are in Japanese I can't be sure that
I can even successfully play the games. The mini controllers from HORI
are hilarious looking. They run like $45 though.
