Force unleashed is looking like it cold be *very* good. Not to mention the
next Indy game in the pipeline. Also Lucas Arts have some excellent
non-adventure games in their back catalogue. >> Stay informed about: Where Are All The New Games ? |

The Dell XPS M1330 is about as close as it gets these days with a 13"
display and pretty decent graphics options. However, the res is only
1280x800.

I think the problem with that wish is that typically the screens to run
that resolution tend to be in the 15.4" variety. Most 14" units I've
seen can't seem to get above 1280x800.
In the 15.4 range though, I know MSI has one (called an Extreme Edition,
not sure the exact model number) that runs 1680x1050 as the native pixel
rez, with a 512Mb nvidia 8600M video card in it, and it was around
$1600. Sager makes a few models with the WSXGA+ display standard on a
15.4" screen, which I guess is the magic combination to get the
1680x1050 you're looking for, and they all tend to run the mobile
8-series nvidia GPU. I've seen others with dual cards in SLI mode, but
those tend to be super hot gaming rockets that have pretty shoddy
battery life and are really pushing the "mobility" moniker to the limit
- unless by "mobile" you mean "near an outlet 90% of the time and
wearing asbestos underwear to avoid testicular burnage when holding in
lap" and then we're ok. Anyhow, they're out there, and the high rez
screens are coming faster now on more models.
As for me, I do fine with my Dell Inspiron - runs a widescreen 1440x900
native rez, has an nvidia 7-series gpu, and gets well over 4 hours on a
charge unless I'm really pounding the graphics (my record was almost 6
hours, but not gaming). Runs most anything I care to play on the road.

Nice. May look into the Dells, but I've had an aversion to the brand for a
while. Thanks heaps for the heads up. I guess I'll have to find the best
bang for buck in the 15'4" models in the lightest/smallest footprint
possible. I do love the compactness of this Lenovo Z61t, though it is
yesterday's tech I believe.

I'm in the same boat. I used to buy probably 2 or 3 games a month, now it
seems a game every 2 or 3 months. I've no stats to back this up but it
seems to me the average age of the PC gamer is creeping up with the younger
crowd gravitating to consoles so the PC market could well be getting fussier
and more demanding with what they expect.
That said the only upcoming titles I'm really looking forward to are Fallout
3, a torpedo boat sim and the upcoming Battle of Britain flight sim plus a
few more I'll probably pick up when I see some positive feedback. >> Stay informed about: Where Are All The New Games ? |

It has to do with the signal to noise ratio. There are about a bazillion
casual games coming out. Would you enjoy it if your favorite newsgroups
were flooded by posts full of the latest casual games? And people who
weren't regular posters in your forum insinuated that you were being
snotty because you don't enjoy the latest versions of games like "Big
Kahuna Reef" or "Hide and Secret" and don't want to hear any more about
them? >> Stay informed about: Where Are All The New Games ? |

Not dead but a lot less than there used to be. I played all the games you
mention above except for Space Quest. They were all made in the 1990s and
were good games. Some adventure games are still coming out. I just finished
Dreamfall which I liked. its a sequel to The Longest Journey. If you can
find The Longest Journey around you might like it. Also I liked Keepsake not
a very old adventure game. Others are Sherlock Holmes and the Silver
Earring, Sherlock Holmes Nemesis which is quite a new adventure game. If you
go to www.justadventure.com and www.gameboomers.com and
http://www.adventuregamers.com/ you will see listed some new adventure
games that have come out and some listed that will be coming out in future..

Free to play is starting to be where its all at. Never have to pay a dime, all games are a simple download and install, most are casual but also cater to the more hardcore gamers. If ya want to save some money, I would check out those types of games. >> Stay informed about: Where Are All The New Games ? |
