Is this another of those PC gaming is dying thread ?

Currently Im replaying STALKER but Im sifting through the various mods
deciding
which I like - there's the AMK mod - very nice but a bit buggy - Oblivion
Lost - not bad but some of the new mutant models
are more laughable than scary. I do like the weather overhaul mod - really
improves the look of the game.

I was looking through the upcoming stuff for this year and I've earmarked

Mass Effect (just gone Gold and it'll be out 6th June in the UK)
Alone in the Dark ? (maybe)
STALKER : Clear Skies
BiA : Hells Highway (the squad AI in the first 2 games could be a bit
annoying but still good games)
Starcraft 2
Aliens : Colonial Marines
Fallout 3
Splinter Cell : Conviction (maybe - I enjoyed the first 3 games but gave the
last one a miss)
Far Cry 2 - the recently released HD movie with commentary makes this look
very good.

Thats plenty of games for me to look forward to.

Yep there's some good games in they plus some others:

Battlefield Heroes
The Witcher: Enhanced
Battle of the Bulge
Spore

.... to name but a few.

I'm sure part of the problem is that I've become more picky and will now
only buy games that I'm damn certain I'm going to enjoy. Otherwise I've
always got some older games and MAME.

Doesn't really leave you with a deep desire to scrap XP and install Vista does
it.

Interesting that in this thread I don't see a single adventure game
mentioned.

I agree. There isn't any adventure games mentioned, but thats because this
thread is cross posted to two groups that are not adventure games like
action and rpg. I am only leaving it cross posted for now in the hopes that
someone in one of the other groups will delete adventure group from the TO
field (I live in hope). Smile

Ah! It would generally help if I included a link at this stage!

LOL! What's crossposting got to do with anything?.. That's right, it
doesn't - there are no adventure games mentioned only because folks from
that particular group (including yourself) did not bother to reply, pure
and simple. You want adventure games? You got it baby! (aprox. release
dates included, some maybe a hybrid action/adventure)

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian 05/15/2008
The Immortals of Terra: A Perry Rhodan Adventure 05/20/2008
Penny Arcade Adventures: 05/21/2008
Dracula: Origin 05/23/2008
Overclocked: 05/08
Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People: 06/01/2008
Insecticide: 06/01/2008
LEGO Indiana Jones: The Videogame 06/03/2008
The Princess Bride Game: 06/11/2008
Belief & Betrayal: 06/15/2008
Nostradamus: The Last Prophecy Q2 2008
Mata Hari Q2 2008
A Vampyre Story: Q2 2008
Nancy Drew: The Phantom of Venice: 07/07/2008
Nikopol: Secrets of the Immortals: 08/01/2008
Freaky Creatures : Summer 2008
Dead Mountaineer Hotel: Q3 2008
A Stroke of Fate: Q3 2008
Simon the Sorcerer 4: Chaos Happens Q3 2008
King's Bounty: The Legend 10/07/2008
Hardy Boys: The Hidden Theft Fall 2008
Still Life 2 11/01/2008
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Fall 2008
Memento Mori Fall 2008
The Chronicles of Spellborn Fall 2008
Leisure Suit Larry Box Office Bust Fall 2008
Arkadian Warriors 2008
Galactic Command Talon Elite Q4 2008
The Hardy Boys: The Tower Treasure 2008
Witches 2008
Prominence 2008
The Lost City of Malathedra 2008
Totems 2008
Once Upon a Time in Japan: Earth 2008
Julia 2008
Bella Sara 2008

There's more, should I go on?

And why is that exactly, are adventure gamers a breed apart? Maybe it's
just me but I had the impression the topic apllied to all kinds of PC
games, which justifies the crosspost.

And by you and other posters its a topic admirably answered. Plenty of
games to play and plenty more coming out this year. Unfortunately for
the doomsayers the end just doen't seem to be nigh... and has
obstinately persisted in not being nigh for several years now...

Nice rant (troll?) ;-p

One word: mobility. I've taken to playing all the older games on a
decent laptop these days. Have 7Mbit mobile data account - will play! Smile
I even get decent performance out of the work Thinkpad for current games
like GW, WoW & CoX. I think my days of being tied to a workstation are
over. The next 'box' will just sit in the corner w/o a monitor for file
sharing/storage & I'll just RD to it over the wireless network as needed.

What I'm really waiting for is a 1680x1050 rez notebook with a compact
size (no larger than 13-14" screen) & a reasonable 3D card. Anyone know
of such a beast as yet? The Mac Book Pros are nice but a little large &
run too hot for my liking (it would have XP Pro dumped on it in any
case). Any/all advice appreciated guys.

FWIW: While I loved the trip down memory lane with DM Java I found the
memory leaks to be unbearable. I tried running it on 3 different
computers and had the same results with all: Maybe 20 minutes of play
before my entire system slowed down.
