While independant vid card manufactures keep pushing out seriously expensive
adaptors, Intel and AMD, processors MS updating DX10 and other component
companies need for survival, it's always going to be in their interest to
urge software companies to make games for the PC. And the games are usually
superior to consoles. Take Assassin's Creed for example. Higher res and more
content. Also the most popular mmorpg, World of Warcraft is only PC with 10
million followers.
I'm looking forward to Age of Conan, DX10 content and a superior gameplay
experience. And where on a console can you get serious simulations? These
are all ongoing and very well supported; Flight Simulator, Silent Hunter
etc.
As an adult, I find many games are just too childish on consoles and when in
a games store, I'm never surprised at how many older people are there. Given
that, and the fact that adults are most likely to require non-games
applications, I think it would be folly for the games industry to turn its
back on the PC. And, personally, I don't think that has happened. There are
still more games for the PC out there than console for the simple reason
that one would require all makes of console to have all the games available.
Let's face it, MS might not admit to the fact, but the mass proliferation of
PCs is purely down to gamers.
There are always periods when new PC games are not appearing especially
towards summer. The arguments about this have gone on for years but we are
still here

The PC is more powerful and much more versatile, so I'm
optimistic for its future.
