Hey,

I remember hearing about a project that was being worked on where there
was a connector on the cartridge that allowed you to connect a cable to
another cartridge and it allowed you to play against somebody else. I
think the game being worked on was a tank game, but I could be wrong.

Does anybody know what the status of this project is? What new games
are people working on at the moment?

Thanks,
Michael

Hi Michael.

Alex Herbert (another Alex and creator of the glorious Protector) did
some work on this I think he's resting at the moment so I'll field
your question. He produced a link cable and is working on a "Doom
variant" called Berzerk Arena. It looks pretty amazing as you'd expect
from AH. I think he demoed it at the UK CGE 2005, but no idea when it
will be out. I've also been dabbling a little and have a 4 player
Warlords planned using the link cable, but that won't be out anytime
soon (as shouting down the joystick port through the link cable is a
wee bit complicated Smile ) However there are a few hardware projects on
the go though which may push me back into that area.

Hope that answers your question.

Cheers Alex

Alex (ShaddamVI) has posted a good reply about the other Alex's project.
However I think you might be referring to UTG, a project by Chris
Tumber. This was planned to be a two-player 3d tank game, presumably a
bit like Battlezone.

I think a demo was made available but I'm not sure. Regardless I'm
pretty sure it's not being worked on now.

As for other projects, a quick look through recent posts in this group
should give you a good idea.

Regards
Roberto/.
