I have a Dell XPS M170 laptop. I installed UT and it played fine without
the CD. I did some house cleaning,
( spyware stuff) deleted the offenders and now the game won't play. It
starts up, goes to the UT mini splash the goes black.
I need to stop Its .exe thru Task Manager.
Any ideas?
TIA

P.S. I have a similar problem with NWN

It could be you have added a firewall to your system. When many games
load, including UT, they connect to the internet. If your firewall
blocks this and is unable to show a message while being in graphics mode
then it could that's stopping UT to load. Trying adding the UT.exe to
the list of trusted programs.

Kind regards

Check to see if one of the things you deleted was secdrv.sys. That's
a SafeDisc component and is used by some game distributors to protect
their games. It's normally found in C:\windows\system32\drivers.

I *think* that even with the nocd patch, UT might need it to run.

If you're talking about the original UT then no. UT only needs what's in
it's own folder and you can actually move it to a different PC just like
that.

Kind regards
