might be the same effect as on playing on laptops with different speed
steppings.
just disable speed steppings on your pc.

Sometimes the power management is the culprit too. Disable that too.

| Greetings All!

| Just loaded UT99 on a new Core2 machine.
|
| To make a long story short, the game runs like it's on crack. For

| So, I played around with the Game Speed slider (first time ever)
with

You might try to limit frame rate to achieve normal game play with
your fast system. The best method is to use the alternative opengl
library which includes an FPS Max setting. I don't have the link for
the opengl file, someone might have it handy tho, please post it if
you got it. My game rig runs a Barton AMD chip at 2200 MHz with a
9800 Pro vid card, and I see this "hyper speed" action when the frame
rate is very high. It might also be the dual core impact, can you
assign the program to only one of the cores?

You're problem is likely to be caused by the fact UT was coded to run on a
single core Machine so running on dual core can screw up the game speed.
Similar to having speed step on intel laptops screwing things up.

Take a look at the link below and see if that sorts it out. If not
completely sorted try the last line as well.

http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-311841.html

you might also try running UT in windows 98 compatability mode

Regards

I don't know if it's still a problem for you, but I have the solution. Make sure that you have the latest video card drivers, then update both the OpenGL and the Direct3D driver to the latest versions from this page: http://cwdohnal.home.mindspring.com/utglr/

The new Direct3D8 renderer on that page looks just as good as OpenGL, so if you are still having speed issues with OpenGL just switch to Direct3D8. Just replacing the old OpenGL driver alone may fix your issue. Going through your graphics settings isn't really necessary but you can make the game look quite a bit better if you tweak the settings as suggested here: http://cwdohnal.home.mindspring.com/utglr/settings.html

To get into the advanced settings press the tilde key (~) and type "preferences" without quotes and hit enter.

I highly recommend setting "UseS3TC" to "True" if you have the high-res texture pack from CD2 of the GOTY Edition installed. You will have to set this individually for each renderer.

Hi..

SwapInterval=1
This enables Vcync

FrameRateLimit= (try 100)

RefreshRate= (set this to your monitors rate)

These settings all go into [OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice]
in your Unreal Tournament.ini file..

Worked like a charm for me...

P4 3.2 dual
1Gb ddr
6600 GT 128Mb

Good luck, hope this works for you to....
