Game Formats?

Hello all,

I would like to know what game formats there are and where can I get more
info.

I would like to play Vanguard, and tribal wars specifically but not sure how
to play them.

I think tribal wars tournaments may be sanctioned, but not sure about the
official tournament rules.

Mercenaries is also a good format that we like to play here at our friendly
events.

I want to start playing vanguard, but I want an idea of how to play with the
characters, before I go and buy the character cards

I know about Standard, Extended, Limited, Type 1 and Type 1.5
