Can the Game Boy Pocket charge batteries?

Hello...

On ebay there are offered many rechargeable Battery packs for the Game
Boy Pocket. They do all come with an AC adaptor, but no charger.

So can I insert the rechargeable Battery into the Game Boy Pocket an
connect the AC adaptor to the Game Boy Pocket and the batteries will
be charged?

Can I insert *any* rechargeable battery into the GBP and will they be
charged?

I thaught The GBA SP was the first Game Boy that could charge
batteries by itself.

IIRC, Nintendo had always warned AGAINST using rechargable batteries
with the Gameboy models prior to the GBA-SP. I think they real reason
was because rechargable AA cells provide only 1.2 volts each, while
alkalines have 1.5 volts - that's a 20% drop. Since the low battery
indicator is activated when the voltage output drops to a certian
point, you will reach that point much quicker with rechargable
batteries.

Anyway, since Nintendo clearly tried to discourage the user from
installing rechargable batteries, I highly doubt that their unit will
function as a battery charger.

However, since these are rechargable battery "packs", not the common
individual AA batteries, then perhaps there is a way to connect the AC
adapter directly to the pack for recharging? I used to have a battery
pack for my Nomad that charged this way.
