I'm playing the game and getting very frustrated. Here are comments
and questions, and I'd love to get some help, please, if you know.
1. When I design a ship and save it, the game crashes. Does this
happen to anyone else? Happens on both my home machine and work
machine. They both have high end graphics cards.
2. Since I can't design ships, I need to use the ones already in the
game. How do I find out what technologies are needed for specific
ships?? For example, if I want to build a battleaxe, what
technologies support that? I can't figure it out at all in the User
Interface.
3. Is there a download of the entire techtree somewhere? Or somewhere
that has the above information?
4. While on the Stardock forumes, I do a search, and nothing ever
comes up. Even if I do a search on "Galactic" or "Gal". Is this
right?
I think that is enough.
Thank you for any answers! - C >> Stay informed about: GalCiv II - frustrated, and questions |

Try patching it to v1.1, the crashes will be 99% gone. This was a known bug.

Beam weapons and medium hulls I think, but can't be sure. Essentially it's
not that big a deal either. When you research down a particular weapon tree
new ships will pop up according to you're max hull size.

It came with the CE version, but has been mentioned in this NG before as
well, so if you don't have that copy, maybe another answer was found
earlier.

No idea there sorry, maybe PM a mod?

Don't you mean patch v1.0X? Afaik v1.1 is still a work in progress...

FWIW, I've been having a blast with GC2. Do more people have problems than

Get the game patched, this has been fixed. There is a workaround: only enter
the shipyard screen from the main game interface and you will be able to design
ships and save them without crashes. This works with the unpatched game also.

I griped about that too. It's been fixed. In the patched game, when you
research new technology that leads to new ship types, it will tell you which
other techs you need for a specific design.

You basically don't need it, since the tech tree is now linear. small guns lead
to bigger guns lead to even bigger guns. Basic labs lead to enhanced labs lead
to research institutes et cetera. If you go into the research tree and you
click on the 'more' button, you get and expanded view of the tree but you still
don't get any nfo about the techs and what they do/unlock.

Not for me. I can search successfully.
Hang in there. Once you get over the initial obstacles/frustrations this is a
very rewarding and not at all frustrating game.
cheers, -P.

I've been playing it since release date... only problem I've had is
that it crashes sometimes after playing it continuously for 6 hours
(thank goodness for auto-save every 5 minutes). All in all, a pretty
solid release - with all the purchases I would imagine that there would
be hordes of outraged gamers here if it was as flaky as most other
released games... >> Stay informed about: GalCiv II - frustrated, and questions |

Quaestor is just being Quaestor. His previous posts speak for themselves.
Some people are just miserable and like to share.
I don't pretend to have done extensive research but every site i've seen
that contains user reviews has galciv pegged at 9/10 and the average review
is 9/10 and nearly everyone here on this forum that has talked about it
likes the game.
I almost always wait for the demo. I didn't with this one and love the game.
But if you have any doubt just wait for a demo. They should have one out
soon.

I did. v1.0X1. This crash still happens.
It is getting really annoying. Any other suggestions?
