How exactly can the Warstore solve the problem of me having to drive 80
miles round trip to play a game or fix the price of gas?

I thought it was a distant shop issue, not a distant opponent issue.

Well given the Texans general boasts about size surely 80miles is just up

Where talking anywhere from 90 minutes to two hours driving time
depending on traffic, plus at least $10 in gas just to go and no
guarantee that I will find an opponent or open table when I get there.
After three trips and no game I decided it wasn't worth it. The time or
money it takes to go.

My problem in my town is that I am sort of out of the loop and need to call
a lot to find when the store will have games. I am not a bad player so I win
a few and lose a few more, but even now going twenty minutes stop and go and
then finding no tables open, it gets frustrating. My job does not lend
itself to well for going at any time but I try. When I go, people come to
talk to me as if I own the store (maybe it is the age thing). The other
issue is that people are playing more the card games which do not generally
excite me. The other issue is that it becomes a clique club and if you don't
belong, you kind of have to work hard to get a game going.

I doubt it will do much to help. The local GW store (Seattle) is also
doing the same thing, but it doesn't really seem to bring in the sort
of business that would make them profitable in the long term.

Plus, WotC tried the same thing with their big flagship Game Center
here, with lots of playspace, tourneys, classes, and lots of events.
They had some of the most up-to-date and advanced game systems as
well, but found that maintenance costs and other overhead cut into
their profits far too much. I've known a lot of people that worked
for WotC since their inception, and the GC and other shops were a lot
of fun, at least as much for employees as patrons, but simply didn't
make them money.

Hardrock, who knows far too many people involved in the "glory days"
at both Wizards of the Coast and White Wolf.
