Hey,

The Ork Spearhead box set seems overpriced even by GW standards:

http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.uk?do=Individual&code=99...103121&

"This box set contains: 10 Ork Boyz, 5 Ork Lootas or Burna Boyz, 5
Tankbusters, 2 Bomb Squigs, 3 Ork Warbikerz, 1 Ork Trukk, 1 Ork Big
Mek with Shokk Attack Gun and 1 Ork Weirdboy. Price: £100.00"

That's 22 Infantry, 3 Bikes and a Transport for £100!
Double a Battleforce's cost? That can't be right.

Can it?

If so, I hate to think how much these will cost individually. I'm
guessing that most of these will be metal, but even so that's only two
infantry boosters, one plastic infantry set, two plastic vehicle sets
and a couple of characters. It's a worse deal even than the Eldar Army
set, which gives you three infantry squads, four bikes, one tank and a
Wraithlord for the same price. So ... if we say that 2 infantry
blisters and a Weirdboy are worth the equivalent of a Guardians or
Dire Avenger set (which seems likely at GW costs) and a Trukk will be
priced the same as the Falcon (a frightening proposition) - then a
Shokk Attack Gun, an extra bike and a pair of Bomb Squigs are valued
at the same price as a plastic infantry set plus one Wraithlord.

Though on the bright side, they make a more Orky-looking army than the
last batch of releases - the vehicles and Shokk Attack Gun are good
figures.

Here are the prices from the release sheet that appeared a while ago:

Boyz: $25
Lootas + Burnas + Mek: $20
Tankbustas: $25
Bomb squigs: no price
Warbikes: $35
Wartrukk: $30
Shokk attack gun: $25
Weirdboy: $17

So, assuming that you get one of each in the Spearhead box, that's a total
of $177 + the squigs (which I guess might be in one of the other boxes) at
full price. Makes the £100 pricetag look like you get no discount (or
negligible at least) for buying the box, it's just a way to get some of the
new stuff early.

According to the current exchange rate, that's $207 US. I'll pass.

They come with the Tankbustas.

That's all I can figure. I looked at the contents and thought, heck
with that, I'll just buy some of the new stuff in January and convert
the rest. Why would I pay full price when it doesn't even get me that
much?

So, it's not even a 400 point army, and it's 200 bucks?

Oh.
My.
God.

Welcome to the new Ork army. Fanatics and rich folk only apply,
please.

I come under the first heading, since I actually had enough models
lying around uncompleted to assemble an army with the new codex
without having to buy a thing... which isn't to say that I won't buy
anything, because I will...

At a local event to celebrate the release of Apocalypse I put 5000
points of Orks down, all of it painted to some degree of tabletop
standard... and I had another couple thousand points at home still in
the box. I still have a Forgeworld BW and Gunwagon that need to get
assembled.

I'll be buying some new bikers and some burna boys... otherwise
conversions will be the order of the day.

I'm in the same boat, but it gets worse if I whip out the 2nd edition
stuff (and even some classic RT era stuf).

Speaking of Apoc and Orks, to celebrate the new codex and two of our
local Ork players returning home, we're planning on an all-Ork Apoc
game early next year, then possibly an Orks-vs-Imperium Armageddon
battle. Should be good stuff.
