I know this mission should be pretty easy, but I can't pass it.
I hold down W and S at the same time. And sometimes I also tries holding
down A or D at the same time I hold W and S down.

But the car only moves a little bit and then stops.
Can anyone help me?

This might sound really stupid but.... have you tried pressing a
directional key left or right whilst holding down the accelerator and
brake *together* ?

It's dead easy on the PS2, just hold SQUARE and X and press the
analogue stick left or right. It's also kind of easy on the PC, just
match the equivalent buttons.

Cheers,
Rob

If it helps any, all the driving school missions end when your car
stops. So you really have to press W and S at the same time or you
fail immediately because your car stopped moving. The game seems to
forgive a slight move forward or backward, but not much. I suppose a
wireless keyboard might have a problem with this sort of thing, since
my understanding is that they serialize all keypresses and releases.

Anyways, I suppose it could be that your keyboard can't handle
multiple keys being pressed at the same time. I can't slew the car
around with A or D when holding down W and S, but the cursor keys work
and the mouse too.

....so if your keyboard _can_ cope with those three keypresses together, hold
down the left or right arrow first to get your wheels pointing in the right
direction, then press W and S together. Release W when the skidmark is a
complete circle. (As someone else has said, pressing W starts the mission,
and it stops when the car stops moving.)

Let us know how you get on...

Isn't getting gold actually the same as getting any other score in
"Alley Oop"? Pure luck, in other words.

Then again, someone had to design that test and I'd have to assume
some play tester must've been able to actually pass that consistently
or otherwise it wouldn't be there. Humbling.

I've found the best way to do Alley Oop is to turn hard into the ramp as
soon as you hit. It flips you faster.
If you hit the ramp on the right (with your left-side tires), turn hard
left as soon as you hit it.
It doesn't get gold every time, but it completes the flip every time.

Sorry for the long quotes, but....

You guys do know that moving the directional stick (The one you steer
the car with) tilts the weight of the car don't chaa?

If you hit that ramp correctly and hold the correct direction the car
*will* do that really cool James Bond stunt with ease. the only tricky
bit I find hard for getting 100% is the finishing position.

Btw, this also works for tipping the car nose-first or arse-first if
you take off over a "flat" ramp. Holding back, using a fast
nitro-fitted car (Turismo, Banshee, Super GT, Bullet, Elegy, etc) and
going off a tall ramp can get you tonnes of flips. You can do some
really spectacular ones using the unique jump ramps too.

Tell you what, put in the "Cars Can Fly" cheat and practice tipping
that car with that and you'll understand the reaction time for the
controls. I think Alley Oop uses a Banshee so try using one of those.

Barrel-rolling with a fast cars looks so *cool* as the cars (And boats,
with a different code) can go much much faster than a regular plane.

You might want to put in the "Car Of Death" code, as crashing at these
sorts of speeds really does put a dent in the fender.....

Cheers,
Rob

Sure, but it doesn't seem to do that much.

You really do have to hit the ramp just right. Otherwise, the car
doesn't flip enough or flips too far, stick or not. I got gold once by
just hitting the ramp just right, didn't touch the stick at all.
