I enjoy wandering around in this game ...but the Fighting is FAR to
difficult and repetitive..
SOOOO!!....to any bunny else who finds this sort of anoyance ..
Try playing it in GOD Mode ..which is same as "take no damage" ,,you have to
forget the RPG fighting aspects but you still have to solve the quests and
find things...I find it makes a pretty decent Adventure game like this
....you can bash monsters as much or as little as you like..
Hopeing GOTHIC 3 has the fighting method sorted out proper..

After working on it for a while I finally got good enough to handle it
but the learning curve is REALLY steep. I almost gave up when that
first d*mn goblin killed me like 3 times in a row before I figured out
how to "target" it. Then the wolf just down the road got me a couple
more times...

Repetative in that you're constantly being killed because you didn't
learn the system?

I played Gothic 1 but my wife hadn't and I thought that was a big problem
with Gothic 2... the game pretty much presumed the player had played Gothic
1 and knew all the moves and how to fight (The weapon teachers in Gothic 1
would go into quite abit of detail on how to fight as you became an "Expert"
or a "Master" of 1 or 2 handed weapons)

Going by this thread It seems that playing G2 in any other way than the
"proper intended" is some sort of super-evil-crime..
GOTHIC 3 (or SHOULD that 'properly' be III) will perhaps be marked "For
Experinced RPG God-like players only" ..sounds like I have better keep well
away from it and the (say) 2 or 3 hundred people permitted to buy and
capable of playing it "Properly"...will people have to take some sort of
oath of good n proper RPG ing ??

My original point was that for the feeble RPG non-Godlike player Gothic 2
still is FUN ! (no wat that word means ?) played like an adventure game in
Godmode ..

Bah! In recent years developers have been steadily dumbing down
PC-games because whiny morons are constantly complaining that they are
too complicated for them. So, thank god, at least Gothic 3 and
hopefully Bioshock are going to offer a little more challenging
gameplay which is not designed with the lowest common denominator
approach.

There are shelves full of *FUN* games for you...

There are perhaps 5% of the population that simply *can't* think.
There are another 5% who *can*, and *do*.
The remaining 90% *can* think, but *don't*.
