G1000 Direct to Waypoint Without Cancelling Plan

Let's say you are on a flight plan IFR and ATC takes you a bit off the plan.
Once you are ready to resume the plan is there a way to direct the G1000 to
take you direct to the next waypoint and then continue on the flight plan.
By default if you hit Nav you are taken to a perpindicular course to
intersect the original flight plan. Sometimes you want to take the most
direct path to the next waypoint, but you do NOT want to cancel the whole
flight plan. Obviously I could bring up flight plan and select a way point
andexecute the Direct function, but I don't want to have that wipe out the
remaining parts of the flight plan.

Not to sure about the G1000, FS9 has the G500. I have taken off east to head
west and the path missed the first waypoint and never activated GPS. I found
that if you bring up the flight plan (long list of waypoints) and curser
down to the one you want to activate and hit menu it will give you the
option to activate it. The line changes from white to red and will turn the
plane to intercept the line. It will still keep the rest intact.
