I have this idea...

It could have been a dream but I don't want to mock Dr. King's
substantially more meaningful dream. Smile

Wentworth's seems to be a very deep source of virtually free
influence. Day trading has made me over 11 million influence in the
past 2 weeks through completely casual work. At this rate my toon on
Infinity could easily reach the hundred million influence mark this
summer. I know this is less than the really active and old level 50s
have but to me it is a ton of influence.

Now, what to do with all of that money...

I could sponsor a bunch of fun but meaningless costume/bio contests.
Perhaps, I could organize a sort of Olympics where we set up race
courses and gave out prizes to the winners.

But I have another idea. One that would suit my philanthropic nature
and perhaps earn the game a few more long term players that it might
miss otherwise. I could sponsor a super group for newbs.

My idea is to build a SG that caters to low level players who are new
to the game. The base provides them with the usual amenities that a
base brings but in addition. The SG would bankroll the new player and
their enhancements up to say... the time when they're ready to get
their first full set of SOs - or perhaps even including their first
full set of SO's. Then the players would graduate and be forced to
leave the SG to make room for more. Perhaps we'd make a coalition
group to absorb the graduates who were interested - I don't know.

My main interest is to sponsor the new players by paying for most of
their needs. The players would then bankroll the base by playing in SG
mode.

I'm not really looking to get anything out of this deal other than to
make game life a bit easier on the newbs and to find somewhere to
spend this free money - sort of putting it back into the community.

The truth is that I'm a bit new at this MMO thing myself and don't
have much experience running an SG nor building a base. Thus I'm
looking for wisdom and guidance from the members of this group.

What do you think of the idea?

Is it a waste of time or worthwhile?

I know many groups probably already do this for their own members so
in a way this is nothing new. I just feel like it would be fun and in
the spirit of the game to sit in Atlas and offer to bankroll newbs for
no other reason than they're newbs.

Let me know...

That's always fun, not to mention it encourages people to be crative
with costumes and bios.

From previous experience handing down inf to alts, 1 million inf will
cover all TO/DO and the first set of SOs with some left over.

Current experience selling all the salvage drops I get, has me easily
buying all my DOs with lots left over.

The dirt-poor state of new characters doesn't last past level 10 with
salvage added to the game.

I'm not the one for that, since my bases have never been more than one
rooms - solo earned prestige just isn't really enough for a real base.

Could be worthwhile.

I've seen the same kind of thing done in EVE Online, teaching new
players the ropes. Of course Eve is substantually more complex.
