One more troubleshooting question - First, thanks for all the a time back when I changed vid cards and was a dilemma then. Now, this is my final issue. I can play any game out there with high frame rates, no stutter, etc etc.(HL2, DOD source, CS source, BF1942,..

Please help! - mod installing question - This is probably something really obvious, but I've been searching forums to no avail. After dl'ing combine destiny, it loads into my folder. How do I get it to actually play? It doesn't show up in my games in Steam.

[Part Of Original Post]:

I am looking to get into Half Life here on my PC.

Thing is: there seems to be all sorts of names, versions, add-on type
things, & whatnot.

Can / could anyone point my in the right direction as to where to start in
this new 'venture'? Program-wise ...

I see there is Half Life then HL 1; Anthology, HL2, & Ep. 1, 2, & "Orange
Box".

Just a quick look on Newegg gives me:

&

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832130200

Would I be all set w/ purchasing these two (?), whether form Newegg or
elsewhere?

TY, again,

I bet the original stuff gets unlocked when you buy the orange box.
When we purchased HL2 when it first came out we were given access to the
older games.

'Fraid not, the orange box is just what it says on the tin. When we
bought HL2, we all probably bought the Silver Edition (now unavailable),
which contained the entire Valve back-catalogue to date. I expect the
easiest way to get everything is, as the OP suggested - HL1 Anthology +
orange box
(although even that combo will exclude the HL2 multiplayer stuff)

Well, perhaps more than just an orange box, but you know what I mean Wink

Well there is the complete Valve pack at $99.95 which if you're happy to
put up with older graphics (HL1 and it's spin offs) is actually pretty
good value for money and looks like being the nearest to HL2 Silver
Edition and HL2 Orange Box.

That's the one I was about to suggest. It's certainly worth the money
if you don't already have half of them

I am so, somewhat, confused. I just want, if possible, physical copy(ies)
of everything I need for the entire Half-Life experience.

Ugh.

The entire Half-Life experience is best obtained through Steam. No need
for physical copies.

Go to www.steampowered.com download Steam and get your credit card out;
you'll have everything you need in a few hours (depending how good your
connection is).

Get Half-Life 1 and start there. Then download several of the mods that are
(in my humble opinion) better than Half-Life (Heart of Evil, They Hunger,
Sweet Half-Life.) That ought to take you a year, but it will be great. Then
start in on Half-Life 2.

You don't need physical copies of everything but you can buy them if you
really want to. Irrelevant really because either way you'll still need
Steam to play them. If you don't want Steam then you can't play the
games. Your choice
