To all you veteran flight simmers out there I am curious as to the best way
to fly in the VC or what suggestions one may have as to how this can be done
effectively. When I try it, it seems that trying to manipulate switches at
an angle is not easily done. I know there are keyboard commands for moving
around in the cockpit, but during flight sometimes one needs to move more
quickly than I can by using the keyboard commands.
Can this really be done effectivly or should one stick with the 2D cockpit?
I think it would be a neat thing to do if one can do it effectivley.
Suggestions please.

If you already own a web cam, there's also a cheaper but less reliable
and sometimes frustrating option. A piece of software called Cam2Pan
does about half what the latest TrackIR does. You don't only get head
tilt not movement. There's a free trial version out there and it's
about 1/10th of the price of TrackIR to register.
I couldn't get face recognition to work. Only way to get it to work
might beto put a torch on your head head, turn out the lights and run
it in follow the "flashlight mode". Didn't buy it in the end. Don't
have a trackIR either.
I do a lot of simming on the commute to work so it's not even an option
for me really. (I have to use a gamepad instead of a joystick on the
train). I found that turning up the sensitivity on the hat switch on
the joystick/gamepad and remembering that you can center your view by
pressing the spacebar was actually sufficient providing the VC is clear
enough. This works just fine in the default C172SP. >> Stay informed about: Flying in the VC |

It's simply the best invention ever if you're serious about trying to
fly in the VC. Takes some getting used to, but it's most definitely
worth it. You can adjust it to your preference, and it's a dream to use
in some of the more complex passenger airliners, with hundreds of
switches all over.

Take a look at the review on Flightsim.com for a look at the baseball
cap clip.

Oh! I thought they were special caps with the peak sewn on the back! )

Shift & Enter and Shift & Backspace seem to tilt your view up/down rather
than lift or lower your seat which can lead to a false sense of atitude and
you believe you are flying straight and level when you are in fact not.
I hate using the 2D panels as it feels like you are not really there. I
like to pan about and look out the windows rather than just staring at
dials/gauges and looking at a bit of the horizon.

I tend to use the 2D panels because frame rates tend to be better but I can
look out of the windows on either side! )

I know many of you really hate to use the default aircraft, but I must
admit the VC in the 737 is good. I use it all the time and it's
especially effective during landing instead of using the 2D shift +
backspace or shift+ enter to adjust the view. When you use these keys
in the default VC's, the mask (cockpit) moves up and down but the angle
of the view remains constant. Makes it a pleasure to
land....sometimes. I've programmed a couple of buttons on the
joystick to work the flaps, etc. because I cannot watch the gauges, and
the runway, while moving the view around to work the buttons........and
Co=pilot Nobody doesn't help at all.

I use the F/S livery myself, but want to install the Dash-8 but they have
it where you can install the aircraft, but no panels. If I can't have the
panels with everything needed, I'll disinstall the addons. this on 2002 and
maybe 2004
If I can get a Beech 1900 for 2002 with panels and working controls I want
that too. Wyoming airports use those primarily for our flights.

I agree, the VC in the default 737 was what I used when I flew it. It is
quite good and certainly better than the default 2D panel. But most payware
a/craft have much better 2D panels than that! )

OK--will do. Like I said, the problem I have is getting _any_ cap
that fits If I can do that, it sounds like the rest will be easy.
take care,

It is believed that the younger generation wear the baseball hat
back-to-front to hide the lobotomy scar!

nothing like the 'been there, done that, got the T shirt' scenario eh Iain..
I agree.. however the default 737 is good for easy peasy flying when you're
checking out scenery etc.. it does everything right without drama and frame
rate probs and I find it quite pleasant still.
