Can anyone help me out with catching an Abra. I can paralyse it, but then
it just flies away.
What pokemon or skill is best to help me catch it?

Thanks

Spore (100% accurate sleep move) is your friend. False swipe will
always leave 1 HP (might not get down that far in one use (it's
seriously weak) but Spore (on Paras and Parasects, maybe others) and
False Swipe (Cubone and others) make a great catching team. Mind you
Paras and Parasects are slow and you need them to be quicker than a
level 10 (or 12?) Abra. I know that level 30 Parasects work, but I
don't know when they get to be quicker than Abras.

Paralyzing might work if the Abra can't move that first time but
otherwise it doesn't as you have found.

The best thing to do is throw a ball rather then attack. They always use
tellaport. Even at level ten they can be caught by a normal ball. But it may
take a few to do this. If you have a better ball use it. The other way is
they are cheap at the game center.
A good way to do the throw ball is to have ten balls or so and run around
trying to catch one and restarting if you run out. Though I tend to get one
with in six trys. But not all games seam to play the same.

I always set aside a little "abra catching time" when I start a new
game. Smile Just put a really fast pokemon in the lead so it will go first,
then immediately use a pokeball. I wouldn't try status conditions, it
will probably be faster overall just to try to catch it.

That is what I did in the end. 11 balls later and it was mine.
Sad to say I sold my DS prior to the pokemon releases, so I am playing
through Fire Red before moving onto some of the newer ones.
Ruby or Shapphire next anyone?

I just tried for an Abra last night in Diamond. Caught one on the first
try, *and* it had a Twisted Spoon with it! Only problem was I wanted one
with Synchronize, so that took another half hour. Smile

For Ruby/Sapphire, I would just go with whichever has the pokemon you
like more. But probably what I'd really do is just buy a DS and get D/P. Smile
