I agree with Xan, you've got to get thinking in 3d, and start multi tasking
asap with this game. It doesn't let you slouch. But its worth it once you
get your giant fleet working well...
And just a random bit of info for you.
Homeworld 2 has dynamic enemies. This means that if you go into your next
mission with a tiny fleet due to combat losses, that's ok, your enemy will
also start off with a much smaller fleet to match you. The same goes in
reverse, if you go into the next mission with a huge fleet, expect a force
that can fight back.
Good luck, don't give up, the ending is worth it for those who can actually
beat the computer.
