Glad to have served at least in some capacity, even if I get a bit heated &
irrational at times. It's the fanboys who think they're more 'informed' or
automatically right because they only see the good bits who always get up
me. You can be emotional/irrational about a topic & STILL be right in the
end, which is what they can't see with their blinkers on. Who ever heard of
an adult, rational flamefest anyway? Smile

Duke Nukem was originally a serious game on the back of iDs games of that
era, but they quickly became a parody of themselves.

The games were awful. Shallow & vacuous. Not particularly good looking
either.

The reason for the delay is because the devs know that the game will bomb
unless they can come up with a gimmick. If the game ever reaches market, it
will only sell on the back of the farce that was it's 10 year development
cycle.

The more strange then that the community was able to restore most of those
hyped features in such a short time because they obviously where still in
the game files but the developers just couldn't finish them for whatever
reason, which is similar to a lot of stuff I restored for Bloodlines. What
I wanted to say is that hyping stuff that you don't deliver in the end
isn't helping your product and is pissing people like Nostromo off too!

Werner,

Please drop your skirts. Your prejudices are still showing. STALKER
without any mods (but with the patches, now thru 1.0005) is a great
game. well worth the (original) entry price. Just not your "cup of
tea".

As for Nostromo, he seems to be stuck in the mud of cRPG yesteryear.
I fully appreciate the virtues of FO1 and FO2 ( I own them both ), but

their implementation short-comings ( due to the physical limitations
of the available PCs and still-present bugs even after all patches )
are very painfully obvious. Time for a makeover of the genre. If it
ends up being a hybrid of first/third person and classic stat-RPG, so
be it. But not making any moves to update the style and substance
of the single-player cRPG is just plain stupid. If Nostromo really
wants to make a Fallout clone in the original style, there are lots of
PC graphical game-kits out there that would now make that pretty easy
given modern computer-hardware. Go for it, Nostromo !!

John Carpenter's THEY LIVE, starring Roddy Piper. Brilliant idea, too
bad the budget ran out at the end.

The first two Duke Nukem games were 2D platform games, but I think
you're refering to the more recent Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project, a 3D
side-scrolling platform game.

Granted and I don't think I ever claimed differently. But in my opinion it
was hyped to be a great FPS/RPG hybrid and it turned out to be a tactical
shooter with quests. So I hoped for the former and got the latter Sad...

PS3 does upscale PS2 games to 1080P, and the difference is noticeable
especially on latest HDTVs. Although, that's also because most HDTVs
don't show a great picture (partly because of their size, for 36"+
screens) for standard definition. The upscaling in PS3 (whether for
DVDs or PS2 games) looks quite good.

The 80GB version in US (Motorstorm pack or lately MGS4 pack) has great
backward compatibility. A lot of people don't know that, because Sony
removed certain hardware components from 60GB/20GB version which
affected the BC in the beginning. But that was last year, and Sony
kept releasing firmware updates that brought 80GB BC to 98-99% level.
I have FFX, FFX-2, FFXII, God of War 1,2, Ico, Shadow of Colossus, MGS
series and they all run great on the 80GB PS3.

Besides 1080P, the other advantage over PS2 is that PS3 can emulate
memory card for both PS1 and PS2 games. So, if you want to try Metal
Gear Solid 1 (from MGS Essential Collection) on PS2, you 'll have to
hunt down a PS1 memory card, whereas PS3 can emaulate it on its
hard-disk.

Finally, I have heard that the new cheaper 80GB PS3 that might come
out in few months will not have BC. It'll basically be just like the
current 40GB version, with a bigger hard-disk. So it'll have no
MemoryStick/SD-Card/CF reading capability and two USB slots instead of
four.

That's probably one of the reason why in US the 80GB PS3 with BC are
selling for a lot more these days.

And again this is something we have gone over in the csipga newsgroup.
Most of the gameplay mods in STALKER show exactly why these things
were left out in the first place. The maps are awfully small for
vehicles for instance. The NPCs with personal agenda also don't work
well. If you read any STALKER Clear Sky preview, you'll see what went
wrong in their initial plans and how they addressed it for the
prequel.

>What
>I wanted to say is that hyping stuff that you don't deliver in the end

And as I said before, this has no relevance to Fallout3 discussion,
because some of the STALKER's features were dropped years before the
release (and were mentioned in the previews) and it came out with
minimal hype.

Fallout3 is supposedly coming out in two or three months and people
have already played it for five to six hour sessions.

With the money you save on the cereal, you can actually buy the game
this time rather than pirating it and then giving up after 20+ hours
claiming the developers should be sued for your lost time.
