Although I have to admit that at the moment the game went out of the labs
into the real world I was already getting bored with them. Good timing!

I think this could un-balance the whole game. Something similar happened
with "Time Shift". You eventually got a one-shot-kill explosive crossbow
which together with time-stop made the game much too easy, even though you
had to wait a bit until your time-manipulation power had restored itself.

It's actually a little bit sad to see lots of regulars getting agitated
about a game that isn't even released yet. Nobody can really know right
now how good FO3 is going to be, but I can understand that Nostromo is
getting a bit annoyed because to me it seems like more pre-release hype
through the media too. And I remember like this turned out for STALKER.

What, people have expectations for Duke Nuke(m) Forever?

My only expectation of it is to be Vaporware of the Year until George
Broussard dies of old age or embarrassment. I don't understand the
excitement to begin with, Duke Nukem was an descent FPS at the time,
nothing particularly special other than it had some pixelated pole
dancers in it.

I don't remember anyone saying it was better than Bloodlines. I
certainly wouldn't say so now. I was wowed, blinded even, by it's
graphics and atmosphere to start, but it quickly wore thin.

It was a short little interesting game, awesome only in the awe sense,
and only until I came to my senses. I hadn't realized it sold that
well. It's no fallout by any stretch of the imagination though.

STALKER is a very fine game.. especially after the patches removed the
most significant annoyances. It just does not appeal to you. And the
hype before actual release was pretty muted, since the promised
release date was slipped several times.

You are too optimistic: Nostromo still has the fallback strategy of "I
played Fallout 3 after ... er... BORROWING! Yes, borrowing it from... uh...
a friend! And (blah blah...)" I wouldn't bet my money on him to shut up
after the game is released.

Not yet, but I expect I will. From what little research I've done,
I gather the PS3 is actually one of the better Bluray players on the
market, and with the HDTV I do want a Bluray player at some point.
I'll probably buy a low-end PS3, though, since I have yet to find a
PS3-exclusive game that I really want to play and I already have a PS2
so I don't need backwards-compatibility for older games.

That's one point, but another is that the developers promised ~ hyped a
lot of features they couldn't deliver, which were easily added by the mod
community, while the developers already continued to the next project.

That may have been but nevertheless the hype over all these years was a
lot because of the delay. I bet Duke Nuke Forever will never be able to
satisfy the expectations people build up for it over even more time Wink.

Ah, but you see that's the rub right there. In order for Bethesda to do
that they have to _drop_ many features and aspects of the game that a lot of
us LIKED and feel are part of the core of the Fallout game series.

Think of it this way, would a chess master still consider the game to be
"chess" if both players were to move their pieces simultaneously with who
ever could move the most pieces the fastest having an edge?

Mmmm... a very good point. I woinder how many purchasers (like me) of
the original Fallouts would like FO3 to have game mechanics identical
to FO1 and FO2? Not many at all.... imho.... Count me amongst the
nay-sayers.

I would like some realism and immersion in the action part of my
computer-games these days... cRPG or not............ Exclusively
turn-based was acceptable in the old days of transitioning from
board-games to the computer versions of these games. Nowadays there
is no excuse for not offering the cRPG player the same sort of freedom
as the action-player... Bethesda is apparently trying to preserve as
much of the turn-based paradigm as makes sense in a first/third-person

game. I applaud them for attempting to bring cRPGs along with modern
computer technology. I also applaud CD Projekt for attempting to do
something in the same vein with a cRPG but with a totally different
style with "the Witcher.
