I've had a copy of Falcon 4 for a long time but never had the time
necessary to do it justice. Until now. Should I go ahead and play it
as it comes in the box or should I go for one of the mods/patches like
Free Falcon or one of the Superpaks? What are the differences between
Free Falcon and the Superpaks and are there any other mods/patches
worth considering?
Thankyou and any help or advice would be much appreciated. >> Stay informed about: Falcon 4 |

See if it's one of the ones with the 1.08 patch on the CD. If it does,
that's all you need to play, that and the MANUAL--(always upper case,
bigger than most phone books.)
There's lots of patches and mods, but after a while the patching
becomes the hobby instead of the simming. >> Stay informed about: Falcon 4 |

I'd still like to know the differences between Free Falcon and the
Superpaks though. Is there a website you can recommend that explains
the differences between the two and is one more realistic than the
other? Thanks for posting though Tom. >> Stay informed about: Falcon 4 |

I recommend the Falcon forums at SimHq
http://www.simhq.com/
and Frugalsworld
http://www.frugalsworld.com/index.shtml
Lurk around, read the posts ask a question. They can guide you to the
sites with the latest mods. Decide what you want--theatres, cockpit
mods, realism mods-- before you patch.
And while you're deciding, just fire up the base sim and fly the
training missions on regular difficulty--especially landings. >> Stay informed about: Falcon 4 |

Are you sure Tom? It's been quite a while but AFAIK the original
Falcon 4.0, even patched to 1.08, won't run on XP or later..
I certainly may be mistaken as it's been a looooong time since I tried
it.

Runs on my XP, but that's with compatability set to 98 under
properties. >> Stay informed about: Falcon 4 |

Thanks, that's good to know. I'm actually running Free Falcon in Vista
64, still the best version IMO as I like flying all the different
planes.. I think it's RP5+ but can't swear to it.

Thanks for posting all of you. It sure is a very involved sim and the
mods seem to add so much more! >> Stay informed about: Falcon 4 |

Hi Wadeyboy!
I've been using the original Falcon 4.0 with patch 1.08 and SP4 for
the past year or so and I'm looking for someone to practice this
amazing sim with.
First of all, SP4 was, I believe, the last major patch of the Service
Pak patches. I have an old 1.3 gig Pentium 4 and it works great with
my rig. The open falcon patch is a much more sophisticated patch that
allows for a completely 3D virtual cockpit. But from what I have
heard, you need a very fast computer and graphics card to run it well.
If you are just learning the simulation, the SP4 patch will do just
fine. It cleaned up many of the bugs while giving the scenery a better
look and the cockpit a nice facelift.
If you are interested in flying online, let me know. I am looking for
someone to practice with.
