Vista is designed to have a new graphics driver model. This means that
the drivers will have to be rewritten. There is planned to be a new
version of DirectX9 with a new Direct3D that will take advantage of
of the new driver model. Among other things, the new driver is
supposed to make it easier to use/load multiple GPUs such as in an
SLi or Crossfire environment.
Vista (at least some version -- I hear there will be 6 different
variants) is also going to implement something called "game explorer".
I assume all your saved flights and weather will be saved in the
GE for example. I also assume there might be some sort of improved
on-line capability in FSX, and the game explorer will help mange that.
It sounds like at least other than the most basic Vista version will
have the 3d desktop aka Aero. That I assume will impact how windowed-
mode FSX runs, and maybe addons that open their own windows.
Vista will also change process permissions so that it wil be more
practical to run in user mode instead of administrator. This might
not have any direct impact on running FSX.
Until the next Vista beta is released, it is difficult to tell
how things are going.
