FSX SP1 was working perfectly and I excitedly (or stupidly) installed FSX
SP2 today.

But now, to my horror, when I run FSX I get the message...

"This Graphic card does not meet minimum requirements for shader support
blah blah"

What the heck?

But I'm running Vista 64bit SP1 on a quad core cpu system with 640 meg
8800GTS with latest 64bit driver (175.16 May 0Cool.

I would have thought under those specs there would be shader support
somewhere, or do I have to buy a goverment NSA super computer for that?

For God Sake!

Thanks again Microsoft, bastards!

Welcome to Rant Central.
SP2 should be able to uninstall itself though and go back to SP1.
When I was FSX interested, I found that SP2 caused more problems than it
solved.

Must be something to do with 64 bit. I have no problem with Vista 32 bit.
I also have the 8800 GTS.

Everyone likes to 'thank' MS but I wondering if perhaps the Nvida driver for
64 bit isn't quite up to snuf yet and is not telling the SP2 install program
what it wants to see. I'd post this on the Nvidia board... perhaps an
earlier version of the driver might work or perhaps it is something they are
working on.

I did try the latest nVidia drivers on the same setup as you, but had
problems with FSX and the AntiAliasing. I rolled the drivers back and
back and found the 162.18 works great for me. I also run nHancer with
great success.

I agree about SP2 causing problems, but 64 bit wasn't one of them for me. I
also have FSX on a Quad-core and running Vista 64. SP2 installed fine and
let me run FSX with no problem. Well, no 64 bit problem. Smile I did have to
uninstall for certain other problems...
resources being one, and short flash-to-black screens being another. BTW, I
have the 8500 video card, also running the latest driver.

I am running the same 8800 GTS 640 mb card, on Vista 64 bit Ultimate SP1,
with video drivers 175.16, and do not have any issues with FSX SP2.

It is usually best, to go ahead and do a clean install of FSX, then SP1 ,
then SP2 when updating.
Also, might want to make sure your Direct X Runtime is up to date.

Well I uninstalled SP2 from the Control Panel and thankfully FSX is working
once again on my system.

Although I'm not sure what to do with FSX SP2 now.

Geeze, Will Spencer. I'll preface this by stating, I am not the net police
and this is a public forum. I certainly hope you get your SP2 problem
corrected soon. This is the best place to seek help. I have been a reader
and poster in this newsgroup for years. I always get more help here from the
collective minds of these willing and knowledgeable souls, than I do at
Microsoft or any other company, site, etc, no credit card required and no
waiting on HOLD thirty minutes. It appears that every suggestion that was
offered to you, was an attempt to help, yet you attempted a clever retort,
such as: those Microsoft bastards, Nvidea bastards, reinstall is tedious. I
saw only one attempt ("thanks anyway") at an expression of appreciation, in
your subsequent postings, to those who took the time and made the effort to
assist you with your problem. I would hope you are appreciative but failed
to communicate that. These guys and gals are the best and most
knowledgeable bunch on the net in my opinion. And this newsgroup has always
reflected the maturity of the lot.
Danny

I did a lot of research and checking before posting, and I had already read

Roll back to older driver? Good God, I thought drivers were supposed to get
better per release, not worse.

Aha! 8500. I run the 8800, so I guess it's the 8800 driver and thus
NVidia's fault. Bastards! But I'm sure MS have something to do with it as
well. Grrr.

Looking that way. OK'll I'll sue NVidia instead. Thanks.
