Hi,
I have noticed, too, an exaggerated effect of the thermals in FSX. They
can be disabled in the settings, but at the same time the turbulences
are gone too. I liked the turbulences...
It happened to me at several airports; the one that I have experimented
most with it is Sabadell (LELL), a little airfield near my home. Try to
land on it with thermals on... remember it's a short runway.
There will be a form to tune it??

This may a function of the wind direction and strength. I don't know what
the prevailing direction may be in that area, but with a 310 degree wind at
9 knots, I was able to sink onto both 8 and 26 without too much trouble.
The approach over town looked a little more scarey, but the guages all read
nominal for both approach speed and sink rate.
On another hand, I have noticed some vertical winds around vertical ground
in FSX, but it looks like Boulder might be a liitle far onto the flat for
that 'mountain' effect. Maybe some of the glider enthusiasts can comment
about whether dark ground or plowed fields are more likely to have
thermals...
