Hi,
I have just purchased FSX Gold having just got a computer that
should run it. I know there where patches released for FSX. Do I need
any patches with this new addition?
Also will it install and run Ok on Vista 64 bit and how does a Wide
Screen Monitor affect the 2D panel views. ie. do the round dials
become stretched sideways.
Thanks in anticipation.
Regards James

Free SP2 contains SP1 or buy acceleration.

in FSX.CFG - WideViewAspect=TRUE

Hi James

Why can't I find FSX.CFG? I have searched all *.cfg files to no avail.

Set your folder options to SHOW HIDDEN FILES. Then check this location in
Vista.

C:\Users\your name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\fsx.CFG

Drag a copy off to the desktop as a shortcut. It is so much easier to find
that way. Then making changes is easier, just use the SAVE AS feature

Thanks Danny. I finally got there. I am beginning to build up a more
than moderate distaste for Vista. I showed hidden files before but the
path was totally obscure.

Thanks again

The above mentioned parameter corrects the outside view in VC.

I seem to get a better view of the VC in my PMDG 747. Previous to
modifying the cfg I had to have a zoom factor of about 0.7 - 0.8 now I
can put it to 1.0 without being too close

One small correction: WideViewAspect=TRUE does not affect 2D panels. As long
as 2D panels are made for the standard aspect ratio of 4:5 they will indeed
be stretched and therefore show distorted dials. It's not too bad but
unavoidable. The above mentioned parameter corrects the outside view in VC.

I just resize the 2D panel so the aspect ratio is more accurate. It'd
be nice if there was a parameter you could add that would automatically
resize the panels, but hey, it's a minor annoyance.

Yup, that's what I mean. It sets another value to the VC/scenery ratio Smile

I'm refering to the VC view of the panels etc with the VC and not the
outside view

Thanks for that Guy's. I think I replied to another post by mistake.
Agent seems to be losing some headers for some reason. I will give it
a try and hope my new machine is up to it.

Just to let you Guy's know. I have installed the programs FSX Deluxe
and The Acceleration Pack with no problems on Vista 64. I have the
resolution set to my Native Monitor Resolution of 1680x1050 which
gives no distortion in 3D Cockpit and only a little in 2D view.
It seems to run fine with everything I can see on ultra high ATM and
it runs very smoothly. I Will be paying Flightsim.com a visit soon to
catch up with all things FSX after a long time on FS9. The program
seems to be in a different league to FS9 unfortunately I could not run
it on my now defunct old machine. I just hope I get as much pleasure
out of FSX as I did with FS9.
Thanks for all your help.
Much appreciated.
Regards James
