It took me 2 downloads and 3 attempts to get it to install, but I finally
got it going.

Look, I'm the first one to bitch if something sux... but 1 hour with FSX and
so far I'm OK with it.

My old AMD 3200+ 32 bit single core with 768 RAM and FX5900 are getting very
smooth flight and 20 fps on the default settings in the Baron.

How? Well first you have to leave St. Marteen and go to some place else
like St. Kitts or Nevis. St. Marteen looks like satellite photo scenery and
I was getting 4-10 fps there. Granted, I haven't tried any weather or
anything else yet either... but you guys had me really worried that this
thing was a total dog. My testing has not really started, but I'm not mad
at MS yet. I even have a short and growing list of things that they did
right.

I wonder how long the time limit is on the demo?

Dallas

Hint: In the VC or Chase view, hold down the space bar and roll the mouse
around to get "ActiveCamera" views.

Anyone tried any flights in Australia yet? or is the demo US areas only?

Only St Martin and a few nearby islands in the Caribean....

I know they want to show off the water but it would have been nice to see
this perform with some AI in heavy areas like London, New York etc..
To Dallas the time limit is about 30 minutes

Na.. I meant what date will it die. Or, how many total hours till it dies?

I'd hate to be in the middle of this and have it say, "Sorry, you're all
done.. "

BTW.. 30 minutes is just silly for us. It's just about exactly how much
time it takes to load the scenery, change settings and start testing the
settings.

Even if it was unlimited it wouldn't make any difference to us, you're going
to buy it or you're not. Owning an FSX Caribbean only simulator wouldn't be
enough to stop someone from buying the full product.

I agree.

As for the time it seems to be computed after everything is loaded.

I downloaded and install the DEMO. I got the same feeling as with the FS2004
you know, getting familiar with the odds and ends and than you get something
new. It's like having a new girlfriend with different things and smells. I
hope that I get used to this one and that my new video card can manage the
attacks. The DEMO give me some troubble allready. So pray for me.

Yes I had the same initial impression in the CRJ mission on approach to St
Maarten - in fact over 30 fps but down to about 12 to 15 on the runway. Then
you change settings to make it look better and down comes the fps.

But surely Dallas, this is the whole point. It's a comparison and, as I said
in an earlier post, in FS9 I can get 18 to 25 fps over and on a better
looking St Maarten!

Maybe not total but close!

You will be!

Yes granted there are a few things. Wink

I'm gonna try that unlocker file. Hope it doesn't screw up my BF2
installation! It would be nice to go to a 64 map in singler player
mode. I'll thank you if it works!

That FSX demo - At first it seemed fluid smooth but once I pushed some scenery sliders to the right to make things look better, the frame rate plummeted to unplayable levels of 5 or 6. Those water textures - even up high they don't come close to even the default FS9....

FSX Demo vs FS2004 - Had a very quick play today. First impressions are good for pre-release demo. Was able to import the FS2004 default and Realair Cessnas. Gauges didn't work though (probably just missing gauges). The aircraft folder is gone replaced by a SimObjects..
