Hi All,
WOW!!
Justin's finally been able to catch up with the backlog of orders, after
hid DVD Duplicator kicked the bucket, and I got my copy a couple of days
ago.
So far, nearly all of my flying has been around Aus', with the Vista
Australis scenery in FS9, and the Orbx FTX scenery in FSX. Pretty impressive
stuff, if I do say so myself.
BUT, having installed Justin's mesh for FSX,, for North America, and
having a squizz at the result, all I can say is that it makes the U.S. so
much better!!!
This is going to open up a whole new world of flying for me - I'll
finally start exploring the U.S. and Canada...
The resolution is brilliant, and, apparently, Canada and Mexico, and
then the rest of the world, are to follow. Strewth!
I'd urge anybody who doesn't yet have a Galaxy Membership at FSGenesis
to hotfoot it over there and sign up, ASAP.
Not only are Justin's products first class, but I've never encountered
any better Customer Service anywhere.
Great stuff Justin, if you ever read this - credit where credit's due,
mate!

John Ward >> Stay informed about: FSGenesis Terrain Mesh v2 |

Hi John,
Central US is somewhere I never venture as I prefer the east and west
coast but The Rockies I love. I take off freqently from Vancouver,
which is well modelled and fly up through the valleys of the Rockies
for ages. Good terrain mesh really requires good mountainous scenery
to appreciate

Morning John,
I cant believe most of you Oz guys just fly around your own continent
for so many years and not check out the rest of the world. USA,
Canada and Europe are my favourites with Ultimate Terrain for all too
and GEX they look good. I have a freeware texture pack for Europe
which gets rid of the desert textures but I'm eagerly waiting for GEX
Europe to come out which is due soon
I've now got to get organised for a large bunch of screaming boys we
are taking to my sons birthday party so I may be a little stressed
later today ;-(

Hi Ibby,
For Aus' scenery, VOZ, and now Orbx FTX, are universally acknowledged as
the flat out best available.
Is there anything similar for the U.S. and Canada that can sit on top of
the FSGenesis mesh, and which is generally regarded as "the best
enhancement"??

John Ward

Hi Ibby,
Thanks for the info', mate - sounds like the way to go, then.
I'll also wait and see if any of the blokes from America have any extra
suggestions, or comments.
BTW, I received a discount voucher email from the FlightSim Store the
other day, valid until 30 June, by which time several more Orbx FTX products
will be released - yyeehaawww!

I use Ground Environment X USA/Canada which is a great texture
enhancement. Its made by By Anthony Vos &
Steve Halpern so its very good like VOZ and ORBX

John,
If you haven't tried it yet I would advise taking off from Grand
Canyon National Park airport and heading north 1nm, over the rim and
exploring the fantastic canyon. It should look good with your FS
Genesis mesh. Also looks good with GEX as they have enhanced textures
for this region. Can look very realistic at dawn or dusk >> Stay informed about: FSGenesis Terrain Mesh v2 |

I have them too John as well as the Europe package. They do enhance
the coast lines and rivers and the full road network is mapped out.
It still relies on the normal generic textures which is why I also use
GEX and X Graphics from the makers of Active Sky. There is also
excellent night lighting and enhancements to traffic if enabled but
these both can reduce performance considerably. I like them all.
Waiting for the Europe package of GEX which is due out soon

Hi Ibby,
I can't speak for anybody else, mate, but in my case, because I've
driven around Aus' so much, over so many years, and because we've had the
absolutely brilliant VOZ for FS9, and now Orbx FTX for FSX, there are so
many places here I can fly to that I've actually been to - its a real hoot!!
 )
But, I will have a squizz around the US and Canada now that the
FSGenesis mesh is out, plus some of the suggested packages.
Regards,
John Ward

Yes, very good. Cities that look like cities (industrial, commercial
areas), all the roads (accurate and they have moving traffic), all the
rivers, lakes. All the little towns that MS left out (talking thousands
here).
Have a reporting tool to report any errors... and yes they do fix them. You
reference stuff using Google Earth. Top notch support for sure.
Yes, very good. UTX lives here...

As you know X Graphics only deals with Sky, Cloud resolution, Water,
runway, taxiway, landing lights and a few other things but not the
general textures you see when flying.
GEX certainly is a good texture enhancement and well worth a look
http://gex.flight1.net/Gallery.htm. At present it only covers USA/
CANADA with packages in the making for Europe, Asia and Oceana and
Australia Autogen is better aligned too
Check out the website for screenies mate

Hi Slap,
Well, I installed Ultimate Terrain X for Europe, Canada, and U.S.A., and
the patches to upgrade them to the latest versions, and the patches re FSX
Acceleration.
The Tool came up each time, and everything is running smoothly, under
both Xp Pro 32-bit, and Vista Ultimate 64-bit.
Strewth - that was ~ 4 GB of downloading, mate!! Lucky I seem to have a
fast connection. )
Is there anything else I'm supposed to do ( I've defragged the 32-bit
drive today, and I'll defrag the 64-bit drive tomorrow)??
Regards,
John Ward

Yikes! You bought them all?
I fly Real Air's Scout Amphibian... on a good day good for 90 knots so kinda
slow flight. MS forgot the south half of my city (pop 1 million+ in the
area). We have a great river valley and only the north side was done in
FSX. Flying the Scout (slow) at 1000 feet off the ground everything looked
residential I guess.
I bought UTX Canada mostly for the custom commercial, industrial landclass
they have and the road interchanges. UTX also added the south half of the
city and all the surrounding towns. Now when I take up the Scout it's just
like doing the morning traffic report that the local TV station does. City
looks good with industrial storage areas where FSX had houses, etc. Almost
looks the same as TV's helicopter shots.
The Canada patch addressed quite a few issues I had... they built a ring
road by hand with maybe 10 interchanges that they had no data for plus
removed a lake and did a huge industrial site on approach to Edmonton
International. Also added a parking lot for me at my local shopping center
(I can add buildings now) so I'm quite impressed with their support.
I guess it depends on the type of flying a person does. I rarely fly over
2000 ft AGL. Time for my 5AM flight... fly the river valley, check out
refinery row, and the traffic I guess. Love those little cars and trucks in
FSX and UTX puts traffic on most of the roads. Then I'll pop the Scout down
in a little lake 10 minutes out of town. That's the type of flying I do.
I am going to take the Scout to Alaska... actually did the first leg (VOR
navigation) but UTX Alaska got put on hold for a bit so I'll wait. Nice
scenery up there.

You can change a few things in UTX... water color, road surface color... I
think the roads might have painted cars on them by default... from the FS9
days and not needed for FSX - you can also select road density... I have all
the roads turned on. Stuff like that. You do all this via the setup tool
and then the next time you start FSX it's all there. Fire up the UTX setup
tool and go through all the options.
