FS9 doesn't have much stuff in the registry.

Ah.. just thought of something. Do you have the noCD crack installed?

Yes, the registry is cleaned out - what there is as Dallas says.

Once you uninstall delete the FS directory. The uninstaller does not remove
files modified since install (new files added or ones changed) or the
directories containing them so you have to that manually. Then get rid of
the FS files under Documents and Setting/yourusername and those
directories.

As Dallas also said - if you have FS9.1 you need to uninstall it first.

Me too, unless there's some "Don't run this sucker" stuff that M$ dumped in
the registry... (but that may just be me being paranoid about Redmond again)
Uninstall does flush all the FS2004 stuff out the registry, nice and tidy,
don't it?

I guess I'm going to have to learn Flight Gear or X-Plane - Jeez those
things are difficult to fly!

Thanks,

Terry,

1. You could try downloading FlightSim Manager from here:
http://www.ranainside.com/software_flightsim_manager.html
It can check some MSFS areas (e.g scenery) for errors. It may show up a
conflict somewhere.
2. Delete your default flight and recreate a new one.
3. Use SCM2004 to look at the "scenery.cfg" file - make sure there are no
duplicate entries (it's file name is "scm2004.zip" and it is available at
Avsim and FlightSim.com).
5. Try a Google search to find software that will check your RAM for errors.
Make sure
the RAM is properly seated in the motherboard (also your video card and
CPU).
6. As others have suggested, delet file fs9.cfg. It is in the folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\XXX(your name)\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9
A new one will be created, using default entries, when you next start the
sim. As an alternative, rather than deleting it you could open it in
Notepad and have a look at it to try to spot and fix any glaring errors e.g.
some older add-ons may need this entry added:

[OldModules]
FSSound.dll=1

and under [DISPLAY.Device XXXX] is the correct video card showing?

Indeed I do, I think the original disks went to Uni with my son... who, of
course has more chance of winning the Eurovision Song Contest than finding
anything in his place.

I'm wondering if you used the noCD crack for FS9.1 on a fresh installation
of FS9.0?

That would cause the train to jump off the tracks.

Hi Tony,

A whole bunch of stuff to try! I'm working today, and this evening have to
try to rescue a friends machine that refuses to boot after a move to another
room, but will give all this a shot as soon as possible.

As I've yet to get this thing beyond the splash screen I have no default
flight. Likewise, no add-ons.

I think I've an Ubuntu Linux disk around here somewhere with memtest on it,
a physical check on the RAM won't hurt either.

Rather than just deleting fs9.cfg file, I've been killing the whole FS9
folder that it sits in. Just gives me false hope for a little longer while
FS2004 rebuilds it.

Thanks for all the ideas,

Terry

This is very embarassing.

On reading the above, I installed the 9.1 upgrade and the corresponding noCD
crack. Expecting the worst I fired up FS2004. Sure enough it stopped at
the splash screen. I gave the three-fingered salute, and just as dozens of
times before, Task Manager said "not responding". Before I could hit "end
task", the doorbell rang. I cantered downstairs (well, as near a canter as
I can manage at my age), and answered the door - visitor for my daughter, of
course. When I got back to the keyboard, the *&%@£$@:* sim is running!

I think that i may have been wasting everybody's time through my own
impatience. I remember when we first switched to Athlon64s at work we found
that things ran quickly enough *once they got started*, but took longer to
get out of the blocks than they did on standard Athlons.

All I can say is that I'm very, very sorry, and I can't thank you enough for
all your sterling efforts. You are all nice people.

Thank you all.

<hangs head in shame>

LOL! That's a new one!

Still laughing....

Yeah, it does take a long time to load. The more add ons the worse it
gets. Nowadaze I start up the sim and go off to do something else to make
use of the time.

I wonder if Crash Lander still has that video of FS start uploaded? How
about it CL?

I've had that happen with two other games. Sometimes, you just need to be
patient...

It appears "Not Responding" means "at this particular moment".
