No sure if this helps. I found it in a read me file using Windows Explorer
Click Start, select Programs, select Microsoft Games, select Microsoft
Flight Simulator 2004, select Troubleshooting, and then click Safe Mode.

'Save' mode or 'Safe' mode?
If safe mode, can you not make a note of the 'safe mode' shortcuts
destination exe in the startup menu

I dont post to this group from home so cant be sure exactly.
If you open the start menu then expand programs, go to Microsoft Games then
FS9 (if its a branch on the menu), right click the 'Safe Mode' shortcut then
select properties. The dialogue box should state the path to that shortcuts
target which you may be able to type in the command prompt. I dont know if
its different to the main FS9.exe. A lot of people have their FS
installation on different drives and not the default C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Games\FS9 folder

Was home at lunchtime and the link is definitely on the 'Start' 'All
programs' menu. The shortcut seemed to refer to the main FS9.exe although
it had about 5 capital letters (didn't note them) after the exe extension as
if this suppresses something within the program.

Blimey I never knew that was there! See what happens just relying on icons
and avoiding the Start button.

Hmm, there should be a submap there in 'Start / Microsoft Games / Microsoft
flight simulator 2004' called Troubleshooting. Amongst others there's a
shortcut there to FS safe mode startup
