they are all pretty hard to solo. I have done a couple of them solo
though:

- the one with the sleeper over in Ashenvale (level 15 or thereabouts).
Tricky, but the secret is to stay just off the road. Stay to the left
of the road, and you don't get ambushed.

- The one for the turtle in Tanaris (around level 42 or so). He just
follows you, so pick a route that doesn't get jumped.

- The one on the mountain in Un'goro (level 46?). He also follows you,
so pick a good route.

The others all walk into ambushes and can really only be done with two
people unless you are really lucky.

Some are soloable, depends a lot on your class - my hedgehog pally could
solo most, as could my warlocks, but ambushes of 3-4 mobs are tough for
most classes. The escort quests where the npc just follows you are the best
as you can choose your own route, much easier!

Yes. Just offhand I cant think of any you can solo at equal level. (Well
maybe a couple you might with a lock but they are very hard).

A fairly easy one (for its level) would be escorting the female centaur out
of that evil are in the pit at the south end of darkshore.

I think the toughest quest (for its level) is probably held by an escort
quest, namely the one in the nort east of swamp of sorrows. The guy walks
through camps with 5+ caster warlocks with pets.
Even if you clear out the mobs beforehand, theres more mobs further on, and
you cant clear them all in time.

Yeah definitly the way to do that one, tho it isnt a normal escort quest,
ince he follows you. Most of these sort of quests like the one in Ungoro
with the goblin and Tanaris with the turtle are very easy.

There is another couple trivial escort quests later on, in
Netherstorm: the Mark II escort in Enkaat ruins, and the cow escort in
Kirin Var.

But really, the harder ones are those where the escortee behaves
stupidly by design. One of these is the escort quest, escape from
firewing point in Terokkar, where the mob has litterally the AI of
Leeroy Jenkins (she even yells "All right, let's do this!" when the
quest starts). She keeps reseting aggro, and spams entangling roots on
all enemy casters in aggro range before charging them, making sure she
aggros the whole town and keeps running around. If you try to do this
quest at off-peak times around level 62-64, then you're definitely in
for a corpse run.

Another escort of note is the chicken beacon series. There's one
beacon in Feralas, one in Hinterlands and one in Tanaris. In each of
these escorts the chicken appears to behave strangely and will
definitely aggro at least 3 or 4 mobs at once.
For the Tanaris chicken escort, you can also use some help from Tooga,
the turtle that follows you makes a fairly reliable tank.

I hated the escort quest in Redridge mountain for Alliance when you
escort that guy out of the cave of Blackrock Orcs.. Just outside the
cave there are ALOT of Orcs very close together... Couldn't do it
alone.

Nah, it's a gamble, if she aggros one of the bloodwarder patrols, then
you're dead. In your case, I'd say you got lucky with the respawn
timers

I don't know about that flag part, as I play on a PVP server anyway.
My main gripe about the maghar equivalent of that escort is that the
guy is basically a naked shaman spamming chain lightning... and you
can't heal him (the escort from the cabal tombs in terokkar is
similar). It's a world of hurt to solo as a healer, as you can rarely
pull off the dps required to keep him alive.

The yetis aren't that bad compared to the pack of furbolgs that spawn
on him once you get near the shore... they have a healer! It was easy
as rogue, easy as hunter, hard as warrior, hard as holy priest. I
didn't try to solo it with my mage, so I can't tell. The main
difficulty when you're in a group for those escorts is the
coordination to get everyone on the same quest, otherwise you'll have
to do it again, and again...

Another hard quest to solo for the horde: planting and protecting the
banner in the furbolg village in southern Ashenvale. I only managed it
with my shaman and with my hunter, but I smelled a bug, as they would
litterally come in packs of 6-10!

There are ones here and there, its a matter of which class you play
makes it so much easier for some and appalling difficult for others.

Yes, that ones only really doable when theres a few around on a Pve
server. I can imagine the fun on a pvp server.

The Feralas one is a classic example of "which class". As hunter and
rogue, I failed this one and gave up, even with 3 in the group. I
think the mob runs off with the worst of the escort design (aggro and
ignore, you are beating down 5 furbolgs and its running off into the
distance). Yet with priest, I got the aggro standing at the back,
feared and ran on with shields up and they give up eventually.
Cakewalk, and maybe soloable.

Ones I can think of not mentioned yet (all alliance): Swamp of
sorrows, bloke from the cage. Yes, walk right around all the groups.
Don't stop now.

Feralas: ring the bell to get her awake. Only ok if theres people
around taking down the harpies.

Nagrand, Sunspring post: I can only get aggro on three mobs as a tank
for god sake, give me four and he's on his own. Then he's got the
survivability of a butterfly...

Hinterlands: solable. How nice!

I found all the old world escort quests to be a bit difficult. Most
of those I would just skip over. And on a PvP server, an escort quest
is like holding a sign that says "GANK ME"

The Outland escorts I found to be easy. The ones that do spawn adds
usually only spawn 1 or 2. I've easily soloed every escort in
Outland, even on a PvP server. The hardest (sans PvP interruption)
was the Maghar escort at Sunspring Post. But if you already know the
path the guy takes you can clear it pretty quickly, eliminating the
possibility of having more than the 5 adds that spawn at one time. I
also did this as a warlock, so having a voidwalker AoE taunt
everything off the guy helps too.

The hardest by far is the Skettis escort, not because the escort
itself is difficult, but because of the time involved finding the guy,
and the high probability of getting ganked during the quest. Since he
is a daily quest, lots of people are always out to do that one. And
for some reason, some people feel the fastest way to complete it is to
find someone already doing the quest and gank them. Apparently when
you fail the quest he respawns in the exact same place. You get
ganked, the guy fights for a while and eventually dies, the guy who
ganked you starts the quest, at which point you have already cleared
most of the mobs for him, and you have already rezzed and are looking
for revenge. It really is faster to just let other people complete
the quest so that they are out of your way for when you try to do the
quest.

The cow is IMO an example of how earlier escort quests should be
designed - enough enemies to feel non-trivial, but an escortee who is
capable of handling herself.

Another escort quest that is reasonably fair (at least the mobs
attacking are predictable) is the mechanical ape in Un'goro.

One that is quite hard but I managed is the prisoner in the fortress
in northern Desolace.

(As a mage I found escort quests got a lot easier as I levelled up.
Some of the early ones were quite impossible.)

At least Blizzard got one escort quest right though: Escape from
Durnholde Keep is one of my favourite instances.

I remember my first encounter with Desolace and said fortress.

On my first character I was questing in Stonetalon, when I found this
pass through the mountains and into Desolace. I was many levels too
low to be in this zone anyway, but decided that if I stayed on the
roads I should be able to just go pick up a FP somewhere.

Well, the roads weren't safe. Died many times, and I didn't even know
where the FP was for the horde in this zone. I decided to give up and
head back to Stonetalon when I saw horde style buildings to the
north. Thinking this had to be the horde town here, I started running
north and eventually, after many deaths, made it. On the outskirts, I
could find no NPC's.

I thought it was weird so I started to head further in, when I came
across and alliance player killing NPC's. I couldn't figure out how
he was doing this without flagging for PvP when one of the NPC's
attacked and 2-shotted me, generating laughter from the alliance
player. Thats when I realized these were bad hordies, and that I was
a long way from home.

Its easy to quickly clear the warlocks from along her patch, and the
respawn rate here isn't bad so you don't get too many respawns. Do it
during peak hours where more people are killing the mobs outside and
it becomes very easy. I did it during offpeak on my warlock. I also
already knew the path she takes out of the building, so I knew where
to clear. And you don't need to clear all of them, just get the
warlocks along the path, worry about the pats near the end of the
escort for just that, the end of the escort.
