Are they are a 4X game or more an X2 - The

Space Empires is 4x, also excellent for strategy gaming. Many options to
direct your empire in creative new directions for surprising tactics. It
seems to offer just about every form of "winning" that I can come up
with. The original game was ok (small galaxy, eight races, a few non-
player races) but it supported modding and the players went nuts with it.
Now it supports huge galaxies, has huge downloads worth of added images,
technologys, AI files. And the races are over 300. Seems like any space-
race from any show or movie has been done really well, many excellent
unique ones, and a handful of cutesies (like the UFO race, the talking-
food race, and the lego race). Even as strict as I am about wanting well
done unique races I still have over a hundred of them loaded.
StarFury is recognizably the same developer and same "galaxy" but its
more of an RPG version. One captain starting out with one ship. Well done
for an RPG spinoff from a 4x game.
SEIV is one of those games that tends to live forever on the machines of
people who find it their kindof game. Not a "load it, play it, delete it
a month later" like so many shelfwares these days. I am straining at the
bit waiting for Space Empires V.
