Since I have not purchased the orange box, I just wanted to know if E2
finished the story or should I wait
for another orange box release with all the episodes in another year or two.

No, Episode 3 (apparently) will.

And I suppose they'll release some kind of a compilation, it would be
only natural. (Or else a different colored box with whatever other new
games they have at the time, like perhaps a Portal expansion?) But
you'll also be able to buy the new episode by itself, or else give
away any duplicate games as gifts to people once you install the new
one, and in the meanwhile you'll have the fun of playing them all that
time.
