While the official line from the Guild (as reported, left) does its best to
suggest that all is rosy in the Mages’ Guild, our researches last week
showed a rather different picture. While in public all seems rosy,
privately mages felt able to express their concerns more freely.
Highest among the concerns of the ordinary mage on the street was the
position in the Guild of Lieutenant Vyr Walken of the Children of Light,
recently appointed head of the ‘Warlocks’, a group only tenuously related
to the former magical guild of that name. Placed, members say, in the new
structure straight below the Guild Head and above the heads of the
Colleges of Magic (who until recently were independent guild heads), this
non-mage is said to wear a cold-iron ring (the very bane of magic),
formerly the property of controversial figure Veryn Nyneave, and is
commander in Durholme of a church little known for its love of magic; as
well as heading the City Guard - a man with enough commitments already,
critics say.
Possibly even more worrying for Durhelmians than this discontent was the
ordinary mages’ unwillingness to express their fears publically - not one
was willing to be quoted in the paper. So, happy magical family or living
in fear? You decide...
