Decided to start a night elf druid (my first ever alliance character). I'm
looking for opinions on a good "fit" regarding professions. Thoughts,
anyone?

i like herb/alch for my druid. you can get in and out of places pretty
well with stealth if you're picking flowers. I think it's a good fit.

Mine is Skinning/Leatherworking. I hit 300 skinning at level 42 in
Stranglethorn Vale. If you craft stuff for yourself, this is a good
fit since druids wear leather.

Bronzebeard PVE:
Avocat - Gnome Warlock
Lehi - Human Paladin
Bathsheba - Human Rogue
Pourter - Night Elf Druid

Frostmane PVP:
Laban - Troll Rogue

Or just do what other ppl do - get 2 gathering professions for more
money, for example skinning/herbalism or skinning/mining. At lvl 40
drop skinning in favor of enchanting - you'll start to get a lot of
stuff that is wasted if you don't disenchant it. At lvl 60, you will
have enchanting close to 300 and a lot of money - pick up another
crafting profession! For druid, alchemy would be nice, since you'll
need a lot of Major Mana Potions in the end-game raids.

I have one druid with herb/alch -> but I only use the healing potions

And I have a skinning/leatherworking druid, which is very nice combined
with thorns in low level areas.

You just slap on your thorns in a low-bie area and aggro all the beasts
you see (with e.g. moonfire). A few seconds later they will all be dead
and you can skin them (without any skinning xp unfortunetely).

I like leatherworking/skinning better for this reason.

Blacksmithing doesn't proof very useful since feral form is your weapon
and they don't depend on weapon stats (or did they change that with a
recent patch??). You also can't wear mail/plate.

Tailoring is totally useless to any leather wearing class.

Enchanting/Mining might be nice (just sell everything you mine)
Engineering/Mining is expensive I am told

hth,
Thomas

This is right, but if you are in the raid for a heal duty, you still
need them. End game battle can be loong, and the spirit alone is not
enough to replenish the mana. Innervate is on 10min cooldown - if you
have it at all.

I was referring to soulbound items - you'll get enough Large Brilliant
shards from your own upgrades.
Also, pretty often a BOP drops that nobody wants and you win it. Chard
is much better than vendoring it.

If you want to just generate cash then Skinning and Herbalism are good.
I went Skinning and Tribal Leatherworking so I could use the items as
well as sell them since I'm on a newish server (Sen'Jin) and sometimes
good high level leather gear is lacking.

I disagree with the Major Mana Potions comment. Druids are the most mana
efficient class there is if you play them correctly.

mining is still going to leave all those carcasses lying around Smile

i've just got my "flower picker" (300/300) up to 48 and visited un'goro
crater for the first time... i'm now getting herbs that are worth lots of
gold Smile

use an addon called "gatherer" which remembers every pickup (chests,
flowers, nodes, crystals, etc.) and displays it on your mini/main map...
for any character on your account Smile

Wouldn't recommend taking alchemy without herbalism to make them, though
- in my experience, it's cheaper to buy the pots than to buy the herbs.
That might change if Blizzard actually succeed in fixing the Dire Maul
North farming exploits, though.

Cheers!

Or at least, let there be a special enchanter vendor who will DE stuff
for a small fee

I'm finding it a lot of fun. But it's probably better for a hunter, where
the things you make are more applicable to the weapons you use. Still, I
like being a bomb-chucking tree-hugger! Very Happy

If you want to make a good use of the stealth and make some money i believe
you have 3 options:
Minning
Herbalism
Enchanting

As some other mentioned you can stealth in and out.
I know that some of my guildmates stealt in to SM, kill some bosses and
disenchant the drop so they can sell the shards:c)

Herbalism/Alchemy is a match-made-in-heaven for a druid.

Stealth for flower picking.
Travelform for flower farming in lower-level areas.
Aquatic form for underwater herbs.

And then the practical uses.

Alchemists are always in demand.
You don't have to spend oodles of gold to max it out.
Your potions are of use to EVERY SINGLE PLAYER. Leather is used only by
leather wearers, and when you specialise you limit yourself even more. This
carries across to a lot of the other crafting professions.
Herbalism is a wonderful money-maker. If you pick every herb you see you
soon mass a huge amount, more than your own requirements and herbs nearly
always sell on the Auction House.
A stack of Dreamfoil usually goes for about 10g on my server...
Of course, you will always need potions too. Yep, you can heal yourself,
but a mana potion can be a livesaver. Or a buff potion. In the end game
potions are essential and it's a lot easier if you're not buying them and
are instead the one selling Smile
