Having gotten back from sunny Black Rock City in a great mood, I find
the newsgroup in angry disarray. Shocker.

I did a cursory search of responses following other sets. It seems
that there are always complaints. Shock and awe.

While I am a bit sad about the clumping, and think that the printing
errors are unfortunate (I'd pay $3.35 retail for packs if that could
fix the problem), I'm pretty happy about the set. The reason I'm happy
is that drafting it is great. Really great. (Can you swear on the
newsgroup? Because when I say how great drafting this set is, I swear a
lot.)

I drafted some at burningman, and last night myself and three friends
drafted eight packs each for an internal recursion draft, and we had a
blast. Eight was probably too many, I'd like to try six next time, but
it was fantastic and a ton of fun.

I know there are some disappointments with the set, because it is so
huge. For instance, I kind of wanted to see an immortal grapple out of
the 32 draft packs and 1 pack of winners spoils, and I didn't. But
this set is a base set, designed for both new players and for drafting,
and it is good for both purposes. So instead of bitching, try to

How long has it been sonce a pack of Camarilla edition cards was
available via easy normal channels? How long since you last opened a
pack of cards and pulled out a a Spirit Summomnig Chamber, a Freak
Drive and a Torn Signpost? Never. What are the cards that keep you
playing this game-- the core cards-- what keeps this game going-- a
core of older (jaded) players and the introduction of new ones. This
game has had issues with the latter. This set has the right cards to
bring in more players than any of the previous sets (jyhad excluded).

Draft. is why this set has the ability to bring in more of said new
players. There is no need to hand out complex quirky decks--Rather,

8 packs is certainly more than enough for internal recursion. I don't
know as it's too many from a game point of view, but 6 is certainly
cheaper and a little less time consuming on the drafting end.

Aside from the various printing issues, I really don't have any
complaints about this set. Drafting with it is great. I'm sure
constructing decks from it will be great (I've only built 1 deck with
any 3E cards, all of which are vampires, but I have my plans....).

Here's the draft deck I split a 4 player single round "tournament" with
the other night, in case anyone is perversely interested...

CRYPT (8 cards)
2x Malgorzata 9 AUS DOM THA VIC pre, !Tremere Priscus
She may remove vamps in your unctrolled from the game to put
4 blood
on another uncontrolled vampire as a +1 stealth action.
1x Orlando Oriundus 9 AUS DOM THA obf, !Tremere Bishop
Doubles your vampires' votes. +1 Bleed
1x Antonio d'Erlette 5 THA dom for pot, !Tremere
While ready you may spend 4 transfers to search for a
Nephandus and put it in
play (pay cost as normal).
1x Keith Moody 3 DOM, !Tremere
During you untap, your prey may burn the edge to make Keith
burn 1 blood.
1x Lord Vauxhall 7 DOM OBT POT THA, Lasombra
1x Andrew Emory 5 OBT aus dom pot, Lasombra bishop
1x Ilias cel Frumos 3 aus vic, Tzimisce

2x Conservative Agitation
1x Burst of Sunlight (draft= aus: SCE)
3x Special Report
1x Darkness Within
1x Left for Dead
1x Deploy the Hand
1x Dreams of the Sphinx
1x Cardinal Sin: Insubordination
1x Harass
2x Mirror Walk (tha: +1 stealth; THA: and cancel combat if blocked;
draft= obf as tha)
2x Corrupt Construction (weird VIC ally)
1x Telepathic Misdirection (draft = dom: +1 intercept)
2x Foreshadowing Destruction
2x Soul Burn
1x Theft of Vitae (draft = obt as tha)
1x Leather Jacket
1x Force of Will (draft= aus: +1 stealth action to untap)
1x Pier 13
2x Grooming the Protege (Master: move up to 3 from a vamp you to
control to younger of same clan in uncontrolled)
1x Confusion (draft= dom: +1 bleed)
1x Rumor Mill
1x Revenant (draft= !Tremere)
1x Walk of Flame (draft= obt 2R not on first round)
1x Blade of Enoch (Unique Bastard Sword, agg damage to !/Brujah, immune
to frenzy)
1x Guardian Angel
1x IR Goggles
1x Vast Wealth
1x Flamethrower
1x Improvised Flamethrower
1x Darksight (draft = dom: reduce a bleed by 1)
1x My Enemy's Enemy (draft = no discipline, but bleeder can't deflect
older vampire)
1x Nephandus (draft = no clan req, but with only 1 life)
1x Aid from Bats (draft = Fake Out)
2x Kraken's Kiss (draft = 1R)
1x Far Mastery (draft= search deck for retainer or ally and move it to
hand)
1x Precognition
1x Blow Torch
1x Minor Irritation (reaction, do not tap when blocking a younger
vampire or ally)
1x Recure of the Homeland (draft= Tzimisce)
1x Shroud of Night (draft = dom as obt)

Sure. When can we do it again?

I'm not really interested in anything else. I'd just like to point out
that this is an excellent use of Play. The. Game. (tm).
