Dos doom gamepad problem

I got hooked on doom, actually the older versions doom1, 2 and
ultimate and like all junkies I am in trouble now.
I use Windows 98 with Microsoft Virtual PC and have an old gamepad
compatible with the ps-2 keyboard entry (not the Sony PS2). I start
W98 then restart in MS-DOS mode and the old DOS games works perfectly
with sound and everything. So far so good, but my old gamepad is
broken now and playing with the keyboard directly is not funny.
So far I could not find another one of these ps-2 gamepad. So here are
my questions: are they still manufactured? Is there an alternative
like usb-keyboard to usb gamepad adapter?

A PS/2 gamepad? That's highly unusual - most gamepads tend to use the
MIDI or DA-15 port.

Closest I can find is the Nostromo n52.

If Virtual PC doesn't support USB gamepads, you can still download the
Doom sourceports (e.g. prBoom, ZDoom) - they're much more stable than
the original version and do away with various limitations in the
original engine.

There's also a way to configre the keyboard so that it doesn't give
much hinderance. Most common trick is 'e' and 'r' for strafe
left/right, but you can also use the kb+mouse combo.
