I first played DC on the PS. Stopped after getting stuck for a while, and I
ended up running across the DC version at a pawn shop. The graphics are
crisper though it pretty much seems the same. The online reviews give a fair
nod in favour of the PS version. It seems, largely because DC version had
nothing but slightly better graphics going for it. I remember the PS more
fondly but that might because I played it first. Anyone else have an opinion
of the comparison?
I did think the Resident Evil remakes on the PS2 were better because of new
cut scenes that were added.

Dino Crisis on the Playstation was more impressive when it came out than
Dino Crisis on the Dreamcast was when it came out. But from an ex post
position, the DC should be better graphically (those Capcom ports are
Windows CE ports of the PC versions of the games, right?); people might
prefer the Dual Shock as a controller, which could still lead to
individual reviewers preferring the PS version. But if the reviews come
from the respective release times, it's perfectly sensible that the
Playstion version would have been rated higher.

Uh, did you mean remakes on he DC or remake on the PS2? If you meant
RECV on PS2, that version came out for the DC as well, just in Japan...

I didn't know that. I was thinking of Code Veronica but the PS2 version I
played was the one that had cut scenes that wern't in my DC version. And as
far as a Japanese version of that console game, I do have only one import
acquisition. It was PS1's Beast Wars Transmetals. Nice to look at but the
voices and text are in Japanese - all I could do was button mash and I
couldn't even tell if that was getting me anywhere. Are any import games
understandable to a humble gaijin?

Plenty of them are. Lots of games don't need any knowledge of Japanese;
the shooters on the DC for example, like Zero Gunner 2 or Border Down.
The Sega made Puyo Puyo Fever for the DC has a full English option.
PLenty more games where no knowledge of Japanese is needed. Then there
are other games that you can get familiar with with a FAQ and can then
play quite well with no knowledge of Japanese (Tokyo Bus Guide springs
to mind). Then of course there's the UK imports that play in English.

Did you import Transmetals right when it came out? Cuz it came out domestically.

I'm sure it was. I bought it from a place online in B.C. that was selling PS
and Dreamcast games, many of which were imports. Very reasonably priced and
the same year I bought my Dreamcast, at the beginning of the price drops..
