Yeah, I keep mine stashed too, heh.

Good luck on finding him, I get me a rifle there at lvl 8 that lasted me
till lvl 15 or so, so you can find some very nice stuff on him.

And I did. Currently playing a Pyromancer, on Elite difficulty. He's level
4, using the Wisp sub-tree of the 'Coalsmasher' skill-tab. Currently only
1 Wisp, which is sort of like a mobile guided missile launcher. Quite
nice. The higher levels synergies add more Wisps, more damage, more
missiles, looks nice. A quick browse in the forums also showed it's pretty
viable, though you need to decide on a secondary skill...
I'm not sure what to do myself; I think I'll go perhaps the 'Dart'
route from the Flamecaster tab; at least that gives me something to do
myself.
Haven't spotted anything like Teleport, so the only way to traverse levels
is by walking, no tele-jumping (unless there's something in between the
Bloodletter's skills?). Not a bad thing perhaps.
I also have no idea what to use as a weapon; Wisdom doesn't really add a
lot except mana, but summoning a Wisp is rather light on the mana. With a
Barrage/Napalm Gadgeteer you know you need loads of dex to use the better
rifles, since that's also the item you deal the damage with. But here..
Not sure, so I'll hold off as long as possible. For now checking out
Wands; free missile weapons, but not sure if they're viable. Some Wisdom
can't hurt for the mana, but beyond that...
In Diablo II I'd look for something with +skills on it, but here only the
starter item has a + skill.
>> Oh dear. Well, I'll find him again!

>If it's any help, he's I believe in one of the top towns on the map;-)
Thanks, once you've visited them, they're easy to re-visit, since that
apparently unlocks the 'Warp' option of travelling to them.
>Good luck on finding him, I get me a rifle there at lvl 8 that lasted me

Hope to run into him, with plenty of coin in the pocket.
Oh, and to take this OT in another direction: the shop checked the gaming
'puter, and they checked the 8800GTX in another system: no problem. Also
checked the memory and PSU: all ok. So it looks like the mainboard is the
culprit. They're trying to get it credited instead of replaced, because I
told 'em that if that was possible, I'd like to upgrade/migrate to an
Intel X38 based mainboard. We'll see what happens. I can live with getting
a new 680i mainboard back, but it is a bit limited in it's growth
potential, and if it's now already broken, this doesn't improve my
confidence in it.

My friend Tresa is the one who got my a beta invite, and my friend Jaime has
dabbled a little in Mythos as well, and they've both gone the Wisp route
with their pyromancers. From what I've seen, it's VERY potent. Not sure what
secondary Tresa uses, I know Jaime's going meteor with hers though.

I know Meteor seems to work, dunno bout the darts yet.

Aye, seems running is the way it is then.

From what I understand, wisdom also boosts spell damage. So for a pure
caster, wisdom is the way to go. And armor's not a problem, since there's
wisdom based armor as well.

Plus, dex adds to ranged weapon damage too(like str adds to melee damage),
and I think wisdom adds to spell damage. So, from what I've read, in normal
and elite modes, most people pump strictly str, dex, or wisdom at least
until it gets to 125 or so, then pump vita afterwars. HC players tend to go
3/2 primary/vita from what I've seen. I'll have to look/ask around and see
if I'm right about wisdom boosting spell damage.

Wands can get good mods on them, plus you can dual wield them. Two wands
each with increased missle speed and missle range, or perhaps increased
spell damage can be pretty potent.

It's a bit like a Summoning Necro, apparently. Basic build is maxing the
Wisp tree. Fanning the Flames is apparently also mandatory, and is a bit
like Diablo II's Cold Mastery (it lowers and breaks monster's Fire
resists). Beyond that, a lot of variants seem to exist. Some use the
Burning Colossus for a big bad tank. Others even use the melee skills (and
therefore invest in Str for wielding big bad weapons). Others use indeed
Meteor. The Coalsmasher tree also includes some skills which at first slow
down, and with the higher synergies, also damage mobs. That allows you to
let the Wisps do their thing. Plenty of options, but of course with
Skill points being somewhat limited, quite important. Although 1 Gold does
get you a new chance on spending them.

Read about Meteor, Darts seems to be an option too. Hmm.

From what I read in the forums, Wisdom does not (yet anyhow) boost spell
damage. There might be plans to let it do that, but for now it boosts
mana, and I also read that only the Wistdom based armors can have the
_very_ interesting mods which affect your Wisps' damage. Seems the highest
Wisdom needing item you can find, for now, is a Sorcerer's Crown, which
needs 133 Wisdom, so that's something to aim for. Many save up the rest
(Act 3, to be released at the end of month, might unlock a whole new bunch
of items, needing even more wisdom), others spend them in Vit for more
life, but also Str is sometimes used for weaponry. Apparently.

I'd be interested in what you find out. See above for what I found about
Wisdom: purely mana boost and for Wisdom gear. Future tweeks might allow
Wisdom to affect spell damage.

Hmmm, indeed. For now I'm actually back to using a staff: I found a unique
(yellow) staff with some semi-nice mods. The difference between Normal and
Elite is quite noticable: quests/dungeons which only contained about 1
Unique in total, or sometimes per dungeon level, now contain several of
those. I also seem to find more colored items.

Well, I'm trying to make the best of it. It's only after I decided on, and
bought, the 680i based board, that became known that most of these would
not support the 45nm Wolfdale based Quad-Cores. That wasn't very good for
future possibilities with this board. So while I was happy with it when it
was working, I would like to use the current bad luck to perhaps improve
the situation. We'll see what is possible...

Ahh many options is good. And with skill refunds, you can try several of
them;-)

So many choices;-)

Heh, seems to be quite a few ways to go stats wise too. Guess that stuff I
heard bout wisdom boosting spell damage was only a rumor.

Just go here and ask for one. I did and got an invite in less than one
day. Look for the thread about requesting an invitation. Good luck.

Ehhh, I'll just leave it at the one I think and keep my fingers crossed that
I get picked or that Shiflet gets another invite assigned.

Well, three rerolls apparently for some heavy coinage...?
But, indeed, it looks like there are many viable builds possible; quite a
lot less limited than D2 where every character has usually only a few
viable builds available.
Main problem currently for my Pyromancer are the immune to all
magical/elemental stuff swords that sometimes spawn when you open a
chest/kick a barrel... Neither my Wisp, nor the 1 point Colossus can do
anything about these: I have to zap them myself with my wands.. :S

Darts, and especially the higher synergies, sound a bit like CL. Main
problem: they're still only fire and if/when the game ever is going to
contain more 100% fire res monsters, the going might get tough. Also, I
still need to unlock the 'Fanning the Flames' skill, so perhaps that is
able to counter these...

I know there are some high fire immune monsters that are problematic, so
hopefully fanning can help with those.
