I tried Tittan's Quest for like 2 days. Gave it up. Maybe I need to
give it another try.
There is also Baldur's Gate.

OK here is a related question. I get vertigo from first person shooter type
games and need the 'birds eye' view Diablo has. Do these games you mention
use this same type of interface, or are they the nauseating see through the
eyes version?

There are very few decent RPGS out that do not require a monthly fee (if
that is an issue)

Actually, Dungeon Siege is very much _UNLIKE_ D2, in that you don't
directly control your character(s). You simply give them orders (i.e. what
spell/weapon to use) and the computer executes these decisions.

In a way I think Dungeon Siege is more like a Real Time Strategy game,
than Diablo II. Or perhaps Dungeon Siege is more like the Summoning
Necromancer in Diablo II. To sum it up: I found Dungeon Siege to be
much more 'indirect' than DII.

And to answer svenbo's question: yes, Dungeon Siege also provides a
bird-eye view of the playing-area. You can even fully rotate around it,
and zoom in/out.

Hm,I admit,its quite some time ago I played it last,too busy with
EQ1/2,D2,UO,Nethack(and derivates).
But it certainly doesnt play like a RTS game,I only played melee types
in DS,if my memory doesnt fool me,it was much as D2 as you click on
a mob to attack it.
I used to play it in multi player mode after playing through the
campaign one time,so no party,just controlling a single char.

However,if there wasnt D2 I certainly would have spent some time with
it the last years,although character development (skillsystem) and
item system is quite different it very much "feels" like Diablo in the
sense that it has something that makes you always want to play a
little longer or just make another boss run(well it hasnt bosses in
the sense of D2,more boss areas).

I remember Sacred vaguely,it demanded an older graphics card
driver,not the current one,which was not compatible with other
games I played at that time - fortunatly I didnt buy it,got it from
a friend.
Other than that it has a small "viewport" - think D2 classic in
640*480.
Not sure if this all is still true,but if they release a game with
issues like that I wont touch it again

Well,quite different,but at least it is 2D - isometric like D2 -
Ultima Online,and its free.
What shall I say,my 1st MMORPG,still like it and playing
(rarely) on a freeshard.
Much bigger world than D2,much better detailed graphics,
interesting skillsystem,the item system was stolen from D2
some years ago when EA did a major renovation(AOS).
If you dont know it,I highly recommened to give it a try.

DS, can be played out of the eyes of the character or from behind. It is
like WOW in that way.
It is an outstanding game btw, as is DS2 but imo reminds me more of Guild
Wars than D2.

Most of the other games mentioned here have more of a D2 view.
