Hey gP, thanks for the heads up, I still come here to see if anything new is
happening, even though it's mostly quiet. I dont like the whole forum thing
so whatever is here is all I see. Smile
I don't suppose anyone knows when the linux version is due?

I doubt there will be a Linux demo until after the retail version is
released.

I'm installing as we speak. There was a FilePlanet version of the demo that
required a key to open but AFAIK this version is key free. Also the tracker
reports itself as failing but the torrent will in fact finish.

Installing is taking a long time, it seems the physics engine is a large
part of the engine now.

I'm going to sound like a homer but I think they got it with this iteration.
The eye candy is a leap forward (as you would think) but the "jumpy" physics
are gone. It seems much more realistic now.

Kill em all let god sort them out.

First impressions

Well I spent a long time downloading and installing thanks in part to an
inexplicable descision to use mickysnot " .net " to interface the install so
I imagine linux users are going to have a problem . In order to get online
you must set up a profile so that should end the player 3 et al problem and
in the UK due to an act of programming genuis it will not allow you to put
in the @ symbol this is needed as to setup a profile after setting the user
name and password you have to put in your email address -pressing @ just
opens a console line in the end having tried the any key and every key I
just typed in "at" so I don't expect feedback off Epic any time soon.
The default settings do not give the sidestep using the left or right cursor
keys these are set to turn r/l it becomes evident when a bot shoots you up
and you cant dodge instead you need to bind the keys to strafe r / l
strafe does not give simutaneous firing - or did I just bind that to UT
myself it was a long time back either way.getting online well it recognised
available servers but couldn't connect probably as well till I get a little
practice.Thennit crashed in a big way with several grovelling apologies
popping up

I noticed that too about the strafing keys not being bound. Weird because
that should be the default. Maybe you could look in the ini file and see if
you can edit your login info? I've played all day today without any problem.
The maps load faster and the game seems more "polished". Still get some odd
hitching now and again but I can't tie that to anything in particular. There
are going to be some spectacular maps when the editor is released...

So, when are they going to add those mythical beasts called
"gameplay" and "playability"?

Yes I experienced the hitching and then horrors the lockups which meant a
hard
( press the power off button ) reboot.
Now I have just done a clean install of XP on a new HDD ( running out of
space)
and intended to keep the old drive as slave and run UT3 off the previous
install
but no way so it must need .net to run will I reinstall? no I don't think
so I don't
think the beta is close to a release version no doubt we shall she more
feedback
one way or the other but more important I am not having .net installed just
to play
a game I regard it as little better than licenced spyware.

Folk, I owe you a cold one. That cleared about 80% of it up. It should be a
sticky for any Nvidia user. Tell you what, I'll speak to your mailman and
get your junkmail reduced this month Smile

Hopefully this sort of thing will get fixed in the optimization phase, plus
the NV drivers need to catch up also. Thanks for the link.......Now I have
NOTHING to blame for dying repeatedly.
