In one of the FAQs they guarantee six months. But they also state at this
time they are not enforcing that.

I left WoW for a 1 year peroid and my account was still there after I
came back.

My game time expired 31st July 06 and I can still add a new gamecard
(just checked). Blizz would be morons if they deleted my account before
I had a chance to buy BC in the stores imnsho

OTOH, it would free up room on Argent Dawn (EU) if they did (I have a
couple of characters there (7 at least that I can think off))

In the account-cancellation confirmation email, they say your
information will be retained indefinitely.

"Your account will remain accessible for play until <Month> <Day>, <Year
><HH>:<MM> <AM>/<PM> <Timezone>, when the remaining pre-paid time expires.
Keep in mind that your account and characters are retained indefinitely
in case you decide to return. To re-subscribe to World of Warcraft,
simply select the "Setup Subscription" button under the Billing
Information section on the main Account Management page."

It is theoretically possible that this applies only to one of US and EU.
