I have yet to buy Mario Kart. I just never got around to it. I hear
it's much better *without* the wheels...

You heard right. With the wheel, it sucks. >> Stay informed about: Dec 2008 NPD numbers! Wii:2.15M--X360:1.44M--PS3:726K--PS2.. |

I can't diss the Wii simply because I don't care about Nintendo games
anymore. I just can't fathom saving Zelda yet again, or the princess in
Mario in another story, but they sell, and that is what is important. I used
to be an avid Zelda, Mario fan, but after N64 it started wearing very thin
on me and I never bought another Nintendo system after the first three. I
actually blame Nintendo for this because the N64 is where I got my kicks
into liking shooters for the first time. When I got Goldeneye and Perfect
Dark, I realized Mario and Zelda were dead and other RPGs were out there for
me.
My friend at work is crazy over Nintendo games and he took a week's vacation
last March just for the Smash Brothers Brawl release. He played literally
thousands of hours on the GC version. When he got back, he said he hated it
and won't play it again as it was nearly as fun as the GC version. I was
stunned. >> Stay informed about: Dec 2008 NPD numbers! Wii:2.15M--X360:1.44M--PS3:726K--PS2.. |

The games work because while you may be working towards the same
"storyline" goal each time, the gameplay and design is different every
time and ultimately gameplay is what wins the day, not story, which is
not all THAT important when it boils down in the end.

Neither the Mario nor Zelda franchises were role-playing games...

The upgrade from the 64 to the GC version was much bigger and more
noticeable than the upgrade from the GC to the Wii version. I can't
really say whether one was more fun than the other based on their
merits. I had less fun with the new one mainly because I hadn't played
the GC one for years and didn't remember many of the same tactics and
strategies so I got my ass handed to me by my 13-year-old nephew. >> Stay informed about: Dec 2008 NPD numbers! Wii:2.15M--X360:1.44M--PS3:726K--PS2.. |

One thing I forgot to mention is that I did actually buy into another gaming
system in the 90s that I thought was pretty good, but damn expensive, 3DO.
That system initially had some cool games, but petered out really fast; that
was an expensive lesson for me ($399 for console alone a year after its
release). But there was one specific game I had for that system that was the
most perverted warped game I ever played, Quarantine and I loved it bigtime.
All in all I bought about 12 games for that system before the games started
drying up. I still have that system this day. >> Stay informed about: Dec 2008 NPD numbers! Wii:2.15M--X360:1.44M--PS3:726K--PS2.. |

LOL - The first time I touched a 3DO it took so long to load the game
I thought I broke it.
Gex was awesome though... glad it found an audience once it got ported
to the original Playstation.

Jesus, the PS3 can't catch a break. Less than a million units sold in
the strongest month of it's strongest region? That's beyond
embarrassing.
The worst part is all the effort the PS3 made earlier in the year
cutting into the MS lead has been wasted in these last few holiday
months. The X360 has actually increased it's lead over the PS3 since
it's launch and it's up to 8 million now.
So basically Sony is in last place for handhelds and consoles.
Pathetic. >> Stay informed about: Dec 2008 NPD numbers! Wii:2.15M--X360:1.44M--PS3:726K--PS2.. |
